SPECTRE and MELTDOWN: Bug rocks Intel / ARM CPUs

Kinda glad I bought AMD this round. For those who don't know there is a new bug affecting just about every SKU from Intel made in the last .. ohh.. _DECADE_ or so. It's actually worse then F00F or FDIV. Only mitigation appears to castrate the CPU upward of 30%! (depending on processes).

Can Asus confirm AMD and more importantly for me, this or any AMD motherboard are not affected? If so, will there be RMAs?

Fun fact, Intel's CEO dumped stock back in November before they started issuing gags on people from even talking about it.

Hi

Apologies if this has been asked before... the information page with the list of mobo's that are reciving new BIOS updates to patch this vuln - https://www.asus.com/News/V5urzYAT6myCC1o2

It lists my motherboard toward the bottom an X99 ROG STRIX board.
It states I need 1901 BIOS to fix the issue, but the download page for the board still only has up to 1801 released 2017/12/10.

Does anyone know why ASUS are telling me to download a BIOS they don't appear to have made available? 😞

Thanks
Paul

I have a rampage 4 Gene. X79. 4930k Intel processor. Any word if there will be a bios update to address SPECTRE?

Nothing yet. Keep an eye on the advisory over the next few months. Being that our series 4 boards are much older if we do get an update at all it's likely to be after everyone else.
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station…

I cant confirm reboot issue since i have my own modded bios. Only what hit hard is ssd performance. So i consider doing raid 0 with them.

All that we know of performance loss comes from Intel and Microsoft so far and a couple of anecdotes from tech sites. What little data there is shows the loss is not insignificant in some use cases.

I just had a communication from Intel stating "the typical home and business PC user should not see significant slowdowns in common tasks such as reading email, writing a document, or accessing digital photos."

That says nothing of picture editing video rendering and a whole host of more advanced tasks. I think that omission is telling.

Whatever..the performance loss will be the same on any motherboard for any class of processor.
