Rampage Extreme IV RMA issue?

First and foremost...this site has been very informative over the years..sorry my first post is not positive.

I have the fore mentioned mother board:
-purchased under year ago, had an issue with D1 slot...memory would not register. Did not feel like RMA at this point,(man...just got it) used A1 A2 C2 C1 slots, works fine, all memory registers. No quad channel.

Now i have some time on my hands, trying to resolve this problem. Speak to online chat with Asus.
I can get an RMA, cross shipped...this is great.

I asked if the replacement would be new or refurbished...chat ended on ASUS side...so I start over...even got he same rep.

What i do not care for is the reconditioned replacement...nor being told by support, this is the same as new...i disagree.
New is not: used, found to be defective, repaired, and sold as new is it?

I stated that and got the 'sorry you feel that way' response...still a little miffed with the conversation with this person.

I paid top dollar for a new board. It does not work. I feel shorted getting a refurbished back. I stated this was not to my liking, and asked for a supervisors contact information...denied...it will be forwarded to supervisor(not holding my breath)

I guess I am just asking if this is normal?(refurbished) I assumed top end gear would bring top end support/standards.

I am sure I will get lots of suggestion on how to possibly fix this problem..ei re-seat socket..etc. I am most definitely going to try any ideas you may have to offer.

Am I out of line wanting a new board?? The thought of getting one that has been repaired bothers me. Maybe the previous owner OC'd to 1.21 jigga watts? lol

A little miffed,
Brian

Welcome to the ROG Forum! And sorry to have to start this way...

Although, sometimes the refurbished products can be even better as the new ones, I understand what you're saying...

To test and be sure that one of the DIMM slots is not working, you can do two things (if you haven't done yet):
1. Get one memory module and insert in every slots while doing memtest86+ (do it on stock BIOS settings); link: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?19615-Memtest-User-Guide-For-ROG-Motherboards&country=&stat...
Eventually, you can repeat this with every modules...
2. As the memory controller is located in the CPU, sometimes is worth checking the socket pins and reseating the CPU...

If none of these helps you, then I think you need the RMA process... Not sure in which country you are, but it may be worth trying first with your retailer, from where you've got the board...

Sadly that is the business model that most motherboard manufactures follow. RMA boards are refurbished.

Please do the memtest86+ thing for the slot in question.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

That's what most businesses do...

First, like to thank Ethereal for taking the time to sign up to tell me what should matter to me.

My location Ontario Canada

my computer:

Motherboard: Rampage IV Extreme
CPU: 3820
Memory:G.Skill f3-17000Cl11Q-16GBZL (4 Dimms)
Heatsink: Noctua D14(will have to check)
Video: XFX 7870 Black X2
HD: Mushkin Chronos 120gb SF-2281 X2(trying for raid 0)
PSU: XFX 850 modular
Case: Cosmo II

I reseated the cpu...turn off second card....One stick mem in D1 slot...it registers. sweet...no RMA
Remove heatsink again..install one more stick of ram...they both register...add two more...all showing and quad channel is working.
Excellant....then i turn on the PCE lane for second card...get the windows logo and it just hangs there...try reboot..try leaving it there hanging...hours, no go.
Sob...this is buggin...will try cpu re-seat again...will keep you posted.

On another note...
I am going to do another install...as i have been diggin around the forums and found the modified Bios from fernando.
I flashed this, but it still shows verion 3.xxx when booting, I find some info regarding EUFI installation as well...so im thinking i will try that.
Now for some reason...I have a hard time with the Raid 0...i would prefer such/if any comments about 'not worth the trouble' etc just not mentioned. I would like raid 0.
I will flat out admit, this motherboard is above my paygrade....I hope you can be patient with me.
The last time for Raid 0, the 64 bit drivers would not see the drives....had to use 32 bit if i remember correctly. (I used the raid utility)
Im sure this has been answered before here...but i am really confused with the rst drivers. On my last install it seem to take forever for the storage monitor to light up as runnin, so i suspect i did something wrong.

Any input would be greatly appreciated...other than put the motherboard back into the box lol

Ok...here the deal on the second card.
tried to boot with just the second card in slot #4(original spot) slot #1 turned off... no dice
remove card from slot 1, install card 2 into it...nothing..monitor will not light up...put monitor into second(lower dvi)port and get screen but with bad corruption...two big purple strips when in bios...guess thats that. card seems to be bricked. some nice timing. lol
not even the card i touched/removed to reseat cpu.
Still have one card left, so any help/suggestions with the raid 0 install modified bios would be great.

OK, now the graphics problem is solved... I mean, the source of the problem is known at least...

Sincerely, I'm not sure at all why you did a BIOS flash... and what exactly is that "modified BIOS from fernando"... - one thing is sure: you don't just flash BIOS when you thin so... at least, for me is the last step in solving problems...

Regarding your RAM issue, do the memtest86+ before you would start any kind of install! It will save you a lot of head scratching later on... - a badly configured RAM can mess up all your OS and driver installations...

And, about the RAID setup, you should look at this (if you haven't done already): http://rog.asus.com/77402012/rampage-iv-motherboards/what-is-raid-setup-guide/
