Question on the RoC name (an critisizums I get for buying it)

I was wondering what people think here. I am getting alot of stick off my friends buying into RoC, because they say its like buying Alien-ware (all flash an no substance??)... Now granted I am having HUGE issues with my Phoebus card, but the ROC Maximus formula game edition I bought works flawlessly. It's true ROC stuff is really expensive, but I tend to buy for quality over price. For life of me I cant figure out why there seems to be this wide spread contempt for ROC among many people I know.
(by the way, I am not trolling, far to old for that) I am not trying to rude either, its a serious question.
From what I can tell, being that this is my first foray into ROC gear (I have 70% Asus gear in my PC setup), an while the soundcard is a HUGE disappointment for the 300$ I spent on it, the Motherboard is flawless in 99% ways. (onboard sound is a bit iffy, but it works). ROC stuff is really nice, it just seems ot have a link to it with some people as the alienware of Asus...

Well, a lot of RoG products have problems... My G53 has been RMA'd 5 times, and has spent more than a third of it's life in service centres being 'fixed'. I've never had any failures with any other products, besides 1 RAM failure a few years ago.

It's pretty easy for me to compare my RoG with my other computers and say "will obviously the RoG is poor quality". I'm not the only one to have such experiences.

RoG stuff tends to be pretty cheap for what it is IMO - well barring that it has terrible build quality.

The mobos are pretty decent though.

Gorman, dude. You must have the worst luck ever!!

Seriously, over the years I've had loads of Asus boards and not all of them were ROG branded and have never experienced any hardware glitches which required RMA. Looking back over the last couple of years, the only components I've ever had to return were some Gigabyte GPU's which deemed faulty as they were unable to complete 3DMark on two different systems.

Having previously worked in technical support/testing department for a reputable company in the city. I've come to understand most hardware glitches are due to "user error" and not physical glitches.. Why do I say this? Because the vase majority of hardware returned by customers as faulty have often passed our in-house tests and returned to the customer, it's exceptionally rare to encounter manufacturing defects those days.

Worst brand for poor quality control is from Apple, their hardware is rubbish. I've had several laptops from them and most where return for being imperfect. Subtle dents, scratches on the case, dead pixels on the display, faulty slotloader etc. Now I refuse to buy lemons cause their customer service is lame, very time consuming and not very friendly.

Well, the G53 is famous for being a timebomb 😕 It doesn't help that ASUS doesn't want to have anything to do with G53 owners...

Maybe expand that to "human error", for example the most recent time I RMA'd this machine was because I suspected RAM or mobo failure. When I got it back they claimed all 4 RAM sticks failed and the mobo was fine. I tested the RAM and 3 sticks worked perfectly, 1 stick had failed. Additionally the mobo was damaged, and I haven't been able to get it to boot >_>

So yeah, RAM doesn't randomly fail then become usable again... "human error"

You guys are starting to make me think I should stay away from the ROC name :(... I have just started getting into it lol

Can't say anything about laptops, but from my experience, RoG products are great, I have a CHV F and an HD6870 Direct CU, no problems at all with either 🙂

I use to have Gigabyte mobos, the midrange ones... for a while now I'm on Asus ROG ones (R3E, MVG, RIVE, CHVFZ) - and I'm very satisfied with them! It's true, I'm using them only for benching...

I had to change the RIVE, but right now I'm not sure at all if it really was broken...

Also have some Asus graphics cards which are running strong...

Now, if you should buy them or not? That really depends on what you exactly want... Although I don't have too much experience with other brands, I can say that the ROG products are cool!

Tassy .. it is this simple friend ... World Records do not Lie .. also with as many as there are under the
ROG belt .. it is not blind luck.
Then .. that said and to the side .. there is the Membership you find here: Second to None. (excuse me for borrowing this phrase)

All total the answer to your question is really quit simple: They don't know any better.

and brotherGranger .. my friend with the heart of 10 lions .. 'they' should admit defeat and offer
you a brand new top of the line .. because you embody all that is ROG .. even after the
the assault on your good senses you endure .. you are a trueMember.

Welcome to ROG.
[tell'm: .. just go and lay your hand on a ROG board man .. and I think they're finally gonna understand.]
They must be part of the DellApples crowd .. hahahhahaa ..c.

See my signature, we have a group of people whose hardware has yet to break. I would be careful of judging based upon this forum. Many people come here to get their problems solved, which makes this inherently a poor way of judging product quality. I have had zero problems with my G53SX, so from what I understand, the infamous power connector issue seems to have been fixed on the newer models.

ASUS is not like Alienware. The hardware is solid, and their reliability is top-notch, but their software support sometimes really stinks. Then again, my motto is that you get what you pay for. I paid for a solid, reliable, powerful machine for a low cost, and I am willing to pay the price of self tech-support. That doesn't bother me, since I normally do that anyways. From what I can see, it is all a trade-off. If you want a company that supports you like Apple, you have to pay for it. I, for one, would rather invest that money in more hardware than in tech support that I won't ever use.

BTW, this is my 3000th post! 🙂
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!
