Hi there,
I just recently built this computer, and everything was working perfectly. Full parts list here:
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/ultimatemoxie/saved/f9nD3CI left it on while I had dinner one day as I was downloading a large program (SolidWorks). When I came back, the computer was powered down. It did not "wake up" when the mouse was moved, or when the keyboard was pressed like normal. I assumed it had completely shut itself down. Pressing the power button on the case had no effect. The motherboard power light was one as well as the motherboard aura sync lights, and graphics card lights. I cycled the PSU on and off, and retried the power switch. All of the lights turned on, the fans started to spin up, and then it suddenly stopped. Cycling the PSU and retrying the power switch continued to produce the same result. Holding the power switch, pressing the case reset button, and unplugging the PSU had no effect. Finally, I removed the panel to access the cmos jumper. Shorting that caused the PSU to click. Retrying the power switch only produced the same results as before. Pressing the power switch a second time and holding it down had no effect. Shorting the cmos jumper caused the PSU to click, and when pressed the first time the power switch again only started the lights and fans for a split second before everything suddenly shut down. Thinking the case power switch might be at fault, I unplugged it, and tried shorting the power switch pins. This caused the lights to come on and the fans to spin for longer, before suddenly turning off as before. I had to short the cmos jumper again before sorting the power switch pins had any effect. performing these steps repeatedly, and holding the power switch pins shorted, eventually allowed me to boot. It booted to the American Megatrends screen and I pressed f1 to enter the BIOS setup. I reset to default, saved and exited and the computer booted to windows. Windows looked like it had just gone to sleep as my programs where still up and running. No other errors where apparent. I restarted the computer from windows and it restarted fine. I then shut the computer down from windows. I cycled the PSU off and on, and attempted to turn it on again by shorting the power switch pins. Nothing. No combination of cycling the PSU, shorting the cmos jumper, shorting the power switch pins, reconnecting and using the power switch pins, was able to start the computer. Now, when the cmos is shorted, the PSU clicks, and a second later it begins to start up, lights turn on and fans spin, only to immediately turn off. Shorting the cmos again produces the same result. This happens without touching either the power switch of the case or shorting the power switch pins. Shorting the power switch pins now does nothing at all.
Like I said, everything was working perfectly before I left it alone for a couple hours. No changes were made. I rely on this computer for school work so I would appreciate a quick response.
Thanks,
Colby
