My name is Billb. I was a mod on the now closed Asus User-To-User site for about 15 years and moved over here to see what's going on.
Been using computers since '78, building computers since '84. Pretty much done it all. Overclocking, water cooling, phase change, even had a HWBOT world ranking (memory overclock) for a while. Even have a NDA agreement with Asus. I was able to get boards and video cards 2-4 weeks before they were released to the public, but keeping components at the "latest and greatest" of everything was, well, very expensive. Was addicted to gaming for a while, but I got over that - you gammers are nuts, $1200 video cards and you need 4 of them!
Now, I'm into modding and overclocking vintage Dell computers, even selling some to friends/acquaintances.
Then there's audio. Did the eBay/Audiogon "buy low, sell high" stuff for a few years to get what I wanted, and now it's DACs, linear amps, high end cables, "hospital grade" line voltage conditioners, and modded OSs. Even moved to a place where I can play loud rock and roll 24/7 if I want. I tell nOObs "Pick a band, come over, and I can put you third row center at a live concert or in the recording studio with them". I'm also into classical music and am a big Bach fan. There's nothing like listening to a full orchestra with a really great sound stage.
I'm retired (for 26 years now), my only "job" is being the crew chief for two amateur auto road racing teams that both race nationwide (15-20 times a year), thouigh we did do 2 tears of IMSA (lites) pro racing, very different that anateur, like crew chief 1 minute late to drivers meeting - $200 fine, non black shoes at track - $200 fine, etc. Most of the current racing is in the midwest, so I get to travel a lot - for free. Though all I see are racetracks, insides of high end restaurants, and bars. Best "racer" bars - Chicanes at Sebring in Florida and Siebkens at Elkhart Lake Wisconsin.
Perhaps I can be of some help here on this forum.
