Hello all,
I am a seasoned PC gamer (nice way of saying I'm a Gen X'er that can't leave gaming alone. I have played mostly FPS since I bought my first PC in 1995 for over $3,000... It was a screamer... Intel Pentium 133 (pre-MMX), it was a beauty.... I liked that it was going to come with Windows 95...... Until I received it and the 28 known bugs it was released with became more of a problem... I can't remember how many times I installed Windows 95.... It gave me a desire to learn more about how the machine worked and what made it go south and stop working. I used that drive to give me strength enough to start buying parts and I built a second machine,,, This one was a 233MMX.... Man,,,, Flash forward, I decided to take a break from the computer business and focus on another career path and degree. so that put me on the USER only end for about 5-7 years. I gave away all my parts, I still kick myself for that move. But I was burnt out... totally. from dealing with problems in my machines and customer machines I repaired. Then when my Main laptop died I decided I would venture off into the wild west, (the gaming PC). From the outside looking in I zeroed in on the ASUS ROG models. I already was using a ASUS X750JA 17.3" laptop for DJ performance, and it worked really well. So I found a good deal and snagged Strix SCAR II (GL704GM). I was not in for the lights and all the flash but it did have a backlit keyboard and the connectivity was excellent with USB 3.1 Type A Gen 1 & 2, Type C Gen 2, mini-DP. Also it was SATA/M.2 only. All in all it was a great machine until i decided I wanted more power. The adage "...if it ain't broke...", I should have done more research into the problems and limitations of different SSD's and the new features Windows 10 had that made it a whole new world if you were living in a Pre-2013 world when it came to permissions and groups/users etc. It gave me hell when I swapped out the boot drive from the SN250 WD to a Samsung 970 Pro 512Gb NVMe SSD for the boot and a ADATA SU800 2TB SSD for the secondary. I also doubled the RAM using OEM Samsung Modules and maxed out the memory at 32 gigs. All should be cool, right? NEGATIVE. it was at that time I remembered why I stopped working on computers and took a break.
SO NOW, 9 months later, I am still fighting with the Armoury Crate / AURA demons and the inability for the longest time to find a accurate and helpful SOP for installing all the drivers for the menagerie of different features the machine had. My Laptop is the 4 Zone RGB with a light bar on the front and the logo lit up on the lid. I swear to you all, I have never in my life had the trial and error method to be the "norm" until someone started putting out the latest releases around xmas with the order that the hardware drivers and software must be installed. I was also shocked at the difficulty and non-flexibility of the order of installation and no forgiveness nature of the software/hardware if not done correctly, "wipe and start over" became the ever present thought in my head while I battled almost daily to just get my machine up and running like it should. I would talk with tech support, who has a particular affection with "restore" as the only solution. That was not acceptable to me, for ONE or TWO minor pains in the butt I had to install EVERYTHING, I even have software now that allows me to transfer software from a backup to machine in the event of a failure. I never needed that sort of software before.
Welll I suppose that is it... my dog and pony show is over. If any one would like to help me out with the best way to install the current drivers and software, I would greatly appreciate it. Between work and the family, the small time I have to use my computer for fun is taken up re-installing and updating, and un-installing, and repeat over and over,,,, it truly reminds me of the first Windows 95 OSR1 machine I bought that started all of this...
I am in Texas now but originally from Mississippi, I am a Veteran (Army National Guard 10 years), and I am Husband, Father, and the guy who *****es about NOOBS run and gunning on servers. lol... Old school reality servers are my favorite. ARMA, COD, etc. I am on Steam, Origin/EA, and I play when I can get my machine to work the way it is supposed to.... ;/ Again, any suggestions on how to fix my machine and get that perfect baseline install to make an image of, please forward them my way. I will truly appreciate and reciprocate in kind however I can, I ran a FTP server in the old days and have TB's of audio and video that could be made available if I am able to get my machine to a stasis point and leave it be, turn off auto updating., and just play a friggin' round or two and frag as many people as possible.. lol 😄
