Hey guys, joined a long time ago but fist post. Just built a new system and been reading up. Glad to be part of the ROG community.

Hello, name is Dan from East Meadow NY.
When corona hit I decided it was time to build a new system since my last one from 8yrs ago still worked great but couldn't play newer games in Eyefinity.
Thinking ahead with supply might go down to nothing I decided to upgrade to:

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E GAMING
32GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 2 x 16GB)
Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT Gaming Overclocked
Samsung 970 EVO+ 500GB SSD V-NAND M.2 2280
Samsung 970 EVO+ 1TB SSD V-NAND M.2 2280
2x 3TB Toshiba HD
Corsair RM750 750 Watt 80 Plus Gold
Phanteks Enthoo Pro TG PH-ES614PTG_BK
3x Acer Nitro XV240T 23.8" 165Hz

So far been a great experience. Play everything on full highest detail at 5760x1080. 😮

Hello everyone,

I have been gaming on ASUS motherboards and building my own PCs for years. Usually have really great success with them and I end up recommending them to my friends. I have even built on them for customers of mine back in the day.

Recently did a build with a Maximus Hero XII WiFi and an i7-10700K. The CPU will only run at 800 mhz no matter how I configure it in the BIOS or through the AI Software Suite. The only way I can run this CPU over 800 Mhz is to use Trottlestop application from and uncheck BD PROCHOT. Each time I boot the splash screen after the BIOS F2 or Del option states "Overclocked 42%", but without Trottlestop I can't get the CPU over 800 mhz no matter what I run. Not sure if it is a sensor or what. Highest temp I get with BD PROCHOT disabled is at most 50C. Most of the time this runs at 32C.

Here is what I have tried so far to troubleshoot:

BIOS upgraded to latest version 0607 CPU ran at 800 Mhz without throttlestop software unchecking of BD PROCHOT.
Clear CMOS base settings and ran F1stock CPU settings. CPU ran at 800 Mhz without throttlestop software.
Clear CMOS base settings and ran F3 Overclock CPU settings. CPU ran at 800 Mhz without throttlestop software.
AI Suite 5-way optimization CPU ran at 800 Mhz without throttlestop software.
AI Overclock BIOS F11 CPU ran at 800 Mhz without throttlestop software.
Windows 10 reinstall from wiped drive CPU ran at 800 Mhz without throttlestop software.
Intel Processor diagnostics Tool - Passed all tests several times.

AIDA64 Extreme really low benchmarks without BD PROCHOT disabled, good CPU scores with with BD PROCHOT disabled
Userbenchmark reallly low benchmarks without BD PROCHOT disabled, good CPU scoresl with BD PROCHOT disabled

With BD PROCHOT disabled I get core speed jumping from 800 to 5400 mhz and multipliers from 8 to 54. Core voltage ranges from .693v to 1.368v.

With CPU Thermal monitoring disabled in the BIOS under Advanced CPU Settings>CPU Power setting. CPU runs like I expect it to.

System Configuration:

Core i7-10700k
Asus Maximus XII Hero
32 GB 3200 F4-3200C16-8GTZR Gskill DDR4 RAM
500 GB Samsung 970 EVO Pro M2 - Boot Drive
1 TB 860 EVO
512 TB Crucial CT512M550SSD1
Corsair Platinum Pro AIO 280 MM H115i
EVGA 1600P2 Powersupply
Aorus 1080ti GTX Video Card

Hello, I'm Todd

I have two laptop and have recently started upgrading my old machine that I'm looking to dual boot with linux. Upgraded the bios the other day and that went well so I continued by upgrading to max RAM. Now looking the most reliable SSD that is compatible with Linux.
