Morning Ladies and Gentlemen
My name is Mike Parkhill. My back ground starts when I was playing with crystal radios 51 years ago, built my first analog computer at 46 years ago, the pc I first worked on a TRS 80, first real pc was an IBM 8086, twin 360 floppys, dos 3.1. Later I added a 10Meg hardcard and put Dos 3.3 on it, plus my SDLC software for a 4800 baud SDLC modem. I've built many pc's since that time in the early 90's, present one is Asus Sabertooth Z99, 8 gig ram, Intel i5-3450 @ 3.10 ghz,4 core, not presently over clocked but I have tweaked it and the video whenever I'm bored. Nvidia GTX 970 video card with 8 gig, 1.9 terra bytes of disk, 750 watt power supply, monitor runs at 1920x1080. I have my own UPS that takes care of the main pc, router, and 24 port switch for the household network. The backbone is 1 gig through the house with slower items tied into switches along with the faster equipment at the other end of the run. Yes I have wireless, but it's at one end of the house and putting in signal booster would be nice, but with cats they love to play with everything.
I'm joining the forums to get caught up on the newer motherboards and processors with the intent of building a dream machine that should last me until I either retire or it dies and I'm forced to build another more sedate pc. Maybe (shudder to think about) just buy one.
Have a nice day!
Regards
Mike Parkhill
