Myk's Man Cave - A work in progress

This is my little corner in my own bedroom, that I am slowly working on. Foxtel/Austar box, new freebie TV for signing up to Foxtel.....now, I just need to get an electrician in, to power the corner and wire in a Network point myself and when I get it built, stick my test bench there too 😄

Had to move all the crap that was on there to get this started lol and yes, most of it is against the wall on the right side of this picture. i'm gonna be mounting a small shelf up that wall above the TV for my Foxtel box, plus im also gonna raise my CD holders and mount them on the walls as well. Apologies for the horrible color...but it's not my house 😛

For those of you with a sharp eye, yes, that is a Motherboard tray on the right side of the pic sticking out from the wall, I ordered it from Ebay last week. It's going to be used as a template for my TestBench's mounting holes and then when I can, it will be used again, but in my next project - scratch built Media Centre PC.

This is the tray from Lian Li

Is that port for the aerial? Why is it so high on the wall? O_o

Looks like a pretty nice corner 😉

Nice start there! I can't wait till you post up the rest of the closet...jk...I have a 30foot by 50foot Basement for my Man Cave....:p with the Main Power Closet/Breaker Panel right there behind my desk for easier Power Grabbing.

BTW are you planning on watching TV there or do you do that in the Bedroom? wondering because of the Cable Box on your desk that's attached to the wall...

*Small update* couldn't wait for an electrician to come round, so I just connected in an extension cable and power board to a powerpoint on the wrong side of my room lol...also grabbed my PS3 320GB from the lounge/living room and brought it in, got it all set up and found this on TV 😄

This IS my bedroom DC mate 😛
Lol dunno how long it's gonna take to complete it all, hopefully not too long...though I do have to build a new rig also, before I can start using my test bench

Oh and I also forgot to mention, i'm gonna put in a slide-out shelf just under that bench and sit my PS3 on it to keep it out of the way lol

Nice cave you have there, Myk!

I'm occupying a corner of our living room for now... (that's the main reason I needed to put my rig on wheels) - but really hope that on day I can have my basement like DC has...

*Minor Update* I got some pine on the weekend, 2.4m of the stuff. A small tin of Varnish, some brackets, screws and a new brush for the purpose of applying the varnish to the timber. Had my best mate come round to give me a hand...he's a perfectionist, whereas i'm not so much lol so I got him to help 😛

One section of the hardware store's "premium" pine

And the other bit(had the guy at the hardware store cut it for me for easier transportation

Cut down the pine, 1205mm x 250mm for the the one that goes across the back wall and the sides were about 330mm x 250mm this is one of the sides, after testing on a spare piece of pine it looked like this, after also having a router used on a couple sides:

This is the long "plank" half coated with varnish and look at the 2nd pic below it....you can barely see the difference lol

And this one was taken, to show off the route work done to the pine...

If you're scratching your head wondering why the route job ends there......well, you're just gonna have to wait til my next updates to see why! 😛

*Tiny Update*

Went out to the shed to look at the "treated" pine, after 19 hours drying time...it still looked far too light, so I coated the pine with a thicker coat of varnish and it now looks like this:

And the other two shelves

Came out pretty good after the 2nd coat of varnish. i'll let them dry for another 24 hours and see how they look...hopefully dark enough for me.

That's all for now, hopefully this weekend will see the end of this part of the work to my "Man Cave" and soon, i'll have more updates when I have the materials to finish off the last of my plans, get an electrician in and wire in a network point myself
