My newly built system with the Maximus VIII Formula, Strix 1070, 32GB Corsair RAM, 6700K works quite well aside from some software issues regarding the new Nvidia Drivers as well as AI Suite III.
However, I do have a popping or clicking sound when I boot the system as well as when I shut it down. It sounds like a switch has been turned. Initially, I thought the sound is coming off my PSU, maybe overloading something.
A further Google search revealed that it is in fact the NEC de-pop relay found on some of the Z170 boards, it is a "feature." It became evident to me that every time I install new Realtek drivers, the pop sound returns once during the uninstall old drivers step. It is a repeatable process and is activated 100% of the time. Other than that, the system runs stable and maintains low temps.
Is there any way to deactivate the relay, the clicking sound is very, very annoying. It seems very clunky in an otherwise supposedly modern system.
Do you guys have any advice?
