Did you mean:

It´s 10 PM! Do you know where your TAGs are?!

I´ve been rather unsuccessfull using the search engine for forums, I know others have too. Took a minute to add some tags to a couple of my threads. Did a search on my own tags, and sure enough, got a hit.

I don´t use the search bar in the right hand corner of the page, I choose Advanced Search, check "Posts", and only type in my search term in the Tags bar. Only takes a few sec.s.

So, do you tag your threads? You should! It´s very easily done, only takes a few more seconds to make your thread. And it´s also very easy to tag your old threads. If you got a thread with vital issues, and with good discussions and tips, you could add tags to it. In My Profile choose Show All My Threads, open the thread, go to the last post, below in the right hand corder you can add tags. If you add more tags, just put a , between them.

I´m hoping that we could make better use of the search engine, if we add tags more often, think it would be more practical than to google our own forums.

Oh, and Happy New Year, everybody! And wear those goggles  , and remember: The CIGAR goes in the mouth, and you throw the FIRE CRACKER, ok?! 😉

TenBlade .. ThankYou .. sweet info. (tag'm and bag'm) and I agree .. much better to be
able to search right here .. why have to go offsite ??? I will try to do this more too.

also .. for those unaware of how ..
Google is a great way to search specifics in the forum .. ie .. [Site:rog.asus.com/forum (search term)]
.. as in .. [ Site:rog.asus.com/forum stuff ] in this example Google would search the entire
forum for "stuff" ..c.

For a broad few word search you don't even need to Google the Forums, seriously using the search bar is a breeze, as long as you know what you're searching for...the advanced search of course is the better way to search....search through entire posts for specific words will bring up hundreds(possibly) of Forums posts with those key words...but to find something specific that was posted in a thread, can be a little trickier unless you know the title of the post - but fear not, even if you remember a couple words in the title, you can try a search for thread titles only...and then you just have to scan through any matching titles until you find what you're looking for. Of course, you can even run searches of posts by members if you know who posted something you're trying to find.

Tags I agree are a good idea, but Forum searches, especially those made in vBulletin based Forums are sorely lacking something and that is support for Boolean searches, also known as string searches.....this type of searching makes tracking down something oh-so-much easier, especially for me and others who use this style of searching, because it allows me to narrow down and cut out all the other unrelated threads that I'm not looking for which don't meet the string I have typed in. Sure, there is the "Exact name" check box to use, but even that fails when used in conjunction with the search by title way of searching.

For example, not long ago I wanted to see if anything was posted in that "What's in the box?: Mission Top Secret" thread http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?20547

Running a search by title name and using the exact words of "what's in the box" nets me absolutely no results. At the time I'd forgotten the full title of the thread, so I used those few words for my search and it failed...I had to go to the Home Page of the RoG site and jump back through a heap of old posts to find the damn linked thread.

While I agree, tags *might* have made the search easier.....Boolean/String Searches really should be implemented - if they have ever been implemented in newer versions of vBulletin that is.

You wanna know what a string search is? copy and paste the following line of text into a Google Search Bar and see for yourselves

rog.asus.com/forum: What's+in+the+box:+Mission+Top+Secret

Tags are also practical for those threads that have no revealing title, there´s frequently something like "Need help", or "Graphics wtf", and those threads may contain vital information, and could be searched out with tags.
