is it possible to contact ASUS reps? maybe Via email?

I had some stuff i'd like to someone from ASUS about. Mainly some of their motherboards or LACK there of. I've been forced to go to other brands as of late/before, since ASUS lacks some features i consider important.

ROG boards are always matt black. The Rampage IV Black Edition is all black 🙂 The Hero and Gene are 'inked' red on top - we're the first dual color PCB innovation. If everyone makes just plain black it's frankly boring. Our brand ID is a blood red and matt black.

I will guarantee ROG boards perform better, have at least equal features and their BIOS' are farrrr better engineered. But look at all the reviews out there 😉

I don't necessarily doubt that my good sir, again i've seen an asus board run while on fire. (if it can run while on fire i'd bet it can proabl OC decently too) 😛

it would be nice if you gave the same attention to AN AMD board. it would also be nice if you considered the people who don't like red and black. grant it you did with the black edition but, on intel.

IT seems like every one is treating black and blue fans like a second class citizen or is going all black. One thing i like about one of the new asus cards i just saw the other day is that colors bits are detachable plastic bits that you can attach your self and it comes with several other colors too choose from. in fact this was the same idea i pitched to rep not tooooo long ago. I thought that was cool to see that implemented so as to keep all crowds happy.

also as i'm typing here i'm checking out the black edition and it still carries the black and red theme, http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_IV_BLACK_EDITION/

One thing i like about the black edition is that like the EVGA board it also has an all black I/O ports cover for the back side. I also like that they both have slot placing after the first slot for dual gpu. The one thing the black edition has that EVGA doesn't that i also really like is the black metallic capacitors.

I will gaurnentee i have already spent some time making an black blue system with a black and blue keyboard and black and blue accessories, why would i want to install a motherboard with black and red? it would not match my black blue fans, my black blue, case or my black keyboard or my black blue cables etc etc. IMHO it would not look aesthetic pleasing or professional.

The EVGA boars not only offers an all black finish..... which i don't necessarily disagree that an all black board is boring but, boring is better than sticking out like a sore thumb, it also has 90 degree connectors for superior cable management with the proper case/wire management holes. it also offers pretty decent sized heat pipe cooler. it also offers an 8 phase design with solid caps... all on an intel platform so even if the ROG performs better the EVGA likely would be right behind it.

the one thing intel has that AMD doesn't is a solid platform, i think when intel licenses out to a company to make a board there are requirements that have to be met or something. because i'v always noticed AMD all but, the most top end and some mid grade AMD motherboards skimp on stuff like VRM or heat sinks and what not so it would be cool to see an al lblack AMD and also all black intel ROG.

OR like that video card with the colored bits being removable. or maybe if the non ROG Asus divisions made some kick A all black or black and blue boards. grand it they have always made black and blue boards.

but, any ways you already make video cards removable and interchangeable colored bits, we are talking about plastic that is pretty much pennies on the dollars. While do i get branding i think of that fire works stand scene in the movie joe dirt.

Not every one is gonna want to sport your red and black, not every one wants to sport blue and black. Right now EVGA is offering a board that goes with any theme has a decent solid construction and looks good while offering a cool cable management feature.

at least with removable colored bits and no red bits on on the PCB or any red connectors, you could sell rog with removable bits and just leave the red bits on by defaults and included the other bits in box like you do with that video card. you still get your red and black branding and people like me are happy to because i can remove or replace the colored bits.

One note: AHCI has been enabled on our for generations now. You must have been away a long time. 😄

The rest of the subjective stuff is dictated by the majority, not minority.

must be that much of minority is EVGA is offering such product or the fact that you are offering the same product on the GPU side. also again we are talking about pennies on the dollar, it wouldn't cost very much to release the same board in a different color, replace the dimm slots nad PCI slots and sata ports with the same plastic parts but, a different color at the factory, tack on an extra letter to the end of the model number and you have the same exact mobo but, with a different color. However now i'm repeating my self over and over again.

Also how would you know there is no demand if don't put one on the market?

The motherboards i've deal with were after socket 775 HOWEVER we don't update to the latest bios for risk of bricking unless there is a good reason. if i ever do any build with any the new old stock i'll be sure to do a flash of the latest bios.

Running while one fire probably isn't conducive to the longest term reliability, lol. 😛 Still, that's quite impressive, and props to ASUS! 🙂
I am disturbed because I cannot break my system...found out there were others trying to cope! We have a support group on here, if your system will not break, please join!

We now have 178 people whose systems will not break! Yippee! 🙂
LINUX Users, we have a group!

We might consider other color schemes in the future or something a bit more elaborate than just slot colors, but not until the current scheme is not working well. We have some ideas, but it has to be viable. Pennies is all there is in certain decisions. Bulk buying gets breaks.

No need to repeat yourself. It's something I don't like doing either. I like the idea of flexibility, but it has to be done right and has to make sense. There is a reason the other vendors have gone the ROG red/black right now - one of them was using black and blue before and it din't go down too well. Started going red/black last year and it has helped them against the other non-red/black brands. That in itself should spell out a few things about how things are in reality - even to someone looking from the outside that thinks things are a certain way. Heck they could have kept ordering in some of those blue slots and offered two options, but they didn't.

This year the vendor they stole share from went red and black as well. Hmm:)

EVGA are a minority brand when it comes to MBs. They can cater to the minority niche for now.

Thanks for the feedback anyway. Hope you find what you are looking for somewhere.. 🙂

The costs are huge because you have to order specific colors and the minimum orders are large for this kind of thing to make it economical. The PCBs are slightly easier to order recolors, but then your whole production line is affected because you have to think of SMT machines and things like decoloration during wave soldering and quality of PCB due to materials change in the paint etcetc. We have a very detailed article that will be published soon explaining the level of work that went into painting the Hero and Gene PCBs. It took over 100 tests and 1000s of man-hours.

WOW! I appreciate the feed back! If i'm understanding this correctly and if I've made my self clear... while I understand performance is key but, color is nice. it sounds to me from what you just said that other colors aren't selling well. ...If i didn't know any better i'd start thinking car sales!

"Well the model is selling better than the charcoal model, guess people figure it goes faster."

Asus will always be the first brand i look at. Especially for all my none themed builds in which case I have little reason to buy any other brand any ways.

My P5E3 Deluxe shot out flames/sparks, asus repair department flashed the bios it works great atm sans express gate which is what burned up (some sort of PSU short/surge), it also survived a baking in the oven (false/false positive test results lead me to believe it was dead/failing... i was desperate) I have more Asus mobo survivor stories. [we've seen some stuff go down at the store]

It's a shame i didn't get pictures of the lightening survivor display or the old marketing kit(s) before we moved the store.

the PCBs i can't defintly understand, i also understand bulk and minimum orders. What i'm mainly referring to is is the RAM,PCI,PCIe,SATA and USB ports and headers, these items are for the most identical in form and function but, come in other colors and as you said are bulk ordered.

EDIT: So much so, that on some boards, every thing is perfect except a few colored slots stick out like a sore thumb. i've though about taking an SMD station to some dead motherboards and practicing swapping slots and and or ports to see if it can be done safely to performe on a working board.

I don't see the costs differing MUCH except maybe due the different chemicals needed to render the plastics different colors HOWEVER i'm not motherboard engineer or designer.

So my train of though was if the PCB wasn't done up with the red stripes for the onboard creative audio, it would have been in theory a matter of making a minimum order for say blue or black ports, headers and slots instead of red and modifying the SKU and or model number, so as to differentiate the the various colored version on the retail side. all the while alternate color version could also be made in lower production number given it was with minimum order requirements and still economical feasible.

side note newegg has the cool new thing where if any thing comes in different GB or TB size or color you press the button on the selector. where as before it has it's own separate product age.

I DO look forward to that article. i like reading about such things. secretly i've always dreamed about/though it would be cool if i could design/spec out my own mobo, so i find such things interesting. (kind of stupid sounding i know but, i guy can day dream can't he?)

The only thing that sucks for me i still have a PCI sound card so in order to upgrade i'd have to get an external sound setup in lie of not using the PCIe sound cards

Not bad though. i'll have to check out the other WS board. turns out 1150 doesn't even has 6 cores available. at least not yet.

which they do have boards with PCI but, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131855

as you can see you can't have dual dual slot GPUs and use it.

That black edition is looking better and better,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132053R

aside from price that is. i'm thinking with some tinkering it wouldn't be hard black out the red bits and i've been told the red glowy bit can't be turned off in the bios.

all assuming i can replace my sound card with something equivalent or better (more money though) that i'm changing my tune a little bit (still black and blue guy) seeing as the Asus work station line appears to have some good offerings.
