Hire car

I know this is totally off topic, but has anyone used Enterprise hire cars?

I hired one as my car broke down, and when doing the initial walk around i noticed a scracth which i pointed out to the person. They said certain scratches and scrapes are concidered 'wear and tear' and she had this template with measurements on it. She then said yes its within the limit so its wear and tear. But she didn't note it on the report.. (yer i know, i'm kicking myself as i type this..)

Then today i notice that there is also another scratch (about 1inch long but very faint) on the bonnet. I only noticed it parked outside work when it was dark and the yellow street light showed it up.

I can't find any information on what size scratch is considered 'wear and tear'. Anyone know?. Its certainly smaller than the other scratch.

The excess is £650, and i don't wanna get stung for something that will cost prob nothing (as they most certainly wont get it done)

I think they make it up as they go along to avoid having to do a lot of paper work, and sending the car to the body shop, they probably have some policies to adhere to, so actual "damage" has to be repared. And I´d say the length of the scratch is irrelevant, it´s the depth that matters.
Don´t say anything to them about other dings and nicks you find, they might just pin it on you. I rented a car in Spain once, and I photo documented the surface, all the scratches and minor faults.
And they´re probably not taking note on wear and tear, or they could do nothing else all day. You´d have a strong case I think, and probably their security cam would´ve caught the lady measuring. And you could simply pick like five cars in the lot, find all kinds of wear and tear, and their records would not reflect it, would give a view on their modus operandum.

I was gonna maybe get a mobile scratch repair dude to fix it for £60, but not sure i need to, could be a waste of £60

I worked in car rental for a while,, I wouldn't touch it, try to repair or cover it up, they will go you a row for breach of contact,, When you hire a car make them mark all damage no matter how small on their checkout sheet and take photo's of everything before you except the car and on it's return,,, If they try to take money off you just ring your credit card company, they all hate car rental companies..
