I've completed a new build and can't keep the video output from randomly freezing. Here's my last attempt. Any suggestions are welcome.
1. Fresh windows install to 512GB m.2 SSD. Did not connect to WIFI during setup to prevent auto updating initially. Only peripherals connected are the monitor, mouse, and keyboard.
2. Disabled automatic driver updates (
https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/disable-automatic-driver-downloads-on-windows-10)
3. Connected to WIFI
4. Ran Windows Update (noted NVIDIA display driver 10/27/2017 listed as downloading. During this process screen resolution changes to reflect the NVIDIA driver.
5. Received message that updates failing because other updates are in progress. Clicked restart but nothing happens.
6. Message pops up in bottom right of screen “Gy-sync display connected, click here to view/configure g-sync settings in nvidia control panel nvidia container”. Screen freezes. Mouse and keyboard do nothing, SSD continues to work.
7. Single brief press of power button, computer shuts down.
8. Upon restart there is a message notification: “Display driver failed to start; using Microsoft basic driver….”.
9. Uninstalled NVIDA audio driver, restarted.
10. Boots to sign in screen- freezes. Single press of power button shuts down.
11. Computer reboots with correct resolution.
12. Immediately freezes at desktop.
13. Restarted.
14. Uninstalled nvidia 3dvisionnvidia
15. Downloaded 390.65 (2018.1.8). Did custom install with nothing but the driver.
16. Rebooted to sign in scenery. Display is frozen.
17. Reboots without nvidia driver loading. “Display driver failed to start.” What am I doing wrong?
