Direct CPU cooling on Maximus X Formula?

I'm curious if anyone has any experience with delidding and cooling the CPU directly with the Maximus X Formula?

I'm considering doing this with an 8086k to get better temps, but after watching this video, I am concerned that the socket may not allow for the block to come close enough to the CPU to make contact without an IHS. The issue he had was with the raised corners on the socket being slightly higher than the chip itself.

I delidded my 8086K last week, i`m using a Thermaltake Pacific W4 water cooling block and have no issues with cooling, Idle temps @ 5.3Ghz OC are 27 deg cels and RealBench stress test showed 71 deg max.. I couldn`t be happier with the results. Heres a link too the IHS i used. And here`s a YT guide i used.

I was asking more about not using an IHS, and using a delid die guard. Thanks for the IHS info though, hadn't seen those.

I would delid it with thermal grizzly conductonaut and relid the IHS with heat resistant sealant.

Risk to reward isn't worth it, look at rick66's numbers. I delidded my 7700k and gaming temps at 5.2GHz with 1.440v are 50' - 60's. You won't be running it with much more voltage than 1.44v - 1.45v anyway which you can easily do with delidding + IHS and a good cooler.

Vcore is the cpu voltage

Hmm that's probably a good point of risk vs reward. I'm not even pushing >1.4v anyway right now.

I've seen recommendations of using something to seal any contacts on the top of the silicon if using conductive paste inside the IHS, like clear nail polish. Is this really necessary?

It`s imperative that you seal any contacts on the cpu from thermal paste that may escape the dye onto the circuit board, you must also chose a clear top coat nail polish that has no formaldehyde , a natural polish is what you need other wise it conducts. I used Sally Hansen Color Therapy Top Coat.

I go through the process of delidding the 7700k if you'd like to see it, it's not necessary to use nail polish at least I didn't use any but could be a good precaution.

Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut is the liquid metal for between the cpu die and IHS, the Kryonaut goes between the IHS and water block. These are probably the best on the market.
