Hi,

All HDA drivers above 6.0.8720.1 are no longer compatible with Windows 7 (technically compatible, but unsigned/unvalidated WHQL for Windows 7)

The HDA - ASUS ROG drivers are in version 6.0.8703.1, so you can install them on Windows 7 (whether you have a ROG, PRIME or TUF motherboard, HDA - ASUS ROG drivers are compatible, only HDA - ASUS PRIME-TUF drivers are not compatible with ROG motherboards).

Ok the drivers seems to be working fine for the most part.

I have a maximus x hero and windows 7. I like these drivers because they dont come with all the extra crap that the ones on the support page come with. I dont care about any of the sonic software stuff. I just want some basic drivers that work well.

Also I can never get the ones on the support page of my mobo to install properly. when I double click on the "asus setup" it just hangs and doesnt do anything.

The only issue I have with these drivers is that the "Line In" stops working after I turn off or reboot my PC. Even if I go into the sound manager and make sure its activated and everything it just wont work anymore. When I first install the drivers and set up my "Line In" (its my ps4 its connected to my monitor so I like to get sound via the line in) its works just fine and the ps4 sounds great with my PC speakers however if I restart my PC the line in stops working eventhough its fully enabled in the windows sound control panel.

The only way to get it to work again is to open up the HDA control panel go into options and tick on "Make front and back output devices playback two different audio streams simultaniously" when I do this the "Line in" starts working again. However if I restart my pc again it will stop working again. I will have to repeat the process to get it to work again.

Do you have any idea why its doing that?

The Microsoft support of Windows 7 ends in ~ 6 months for major public : https://support.microsoft.com/help/4057281/windows-7-support-will-end-on-january-14-2020, I think that the quality check of Realtek are not as pushed as for Windows 10.
I advise you to think about a migration to Windows 10.

Yup i'm fully aware that support for windows 7 will end soon but I plan to keep it for a while longer. I really don't like 10 at all. I don't really care about DX12 or Ray Tracing (atleast for the time being), Windows 10 doesn't offer me anything of value over 7. Plus I don't want auto updates on all the time along with all the data collection features etc etc. Windows 10 is just a huge mess for me. With windows 7 I have true control of my PC.

I also play alot of old niche Japanese games that just wont run on windows 10.

I currently have a modern PC build and windows 7 runs all of my games perfectly even new modern games. Most games use DX11 still so there is no issues there. It's gonna suck when i'm going to be "forced" into getting 10 in the future but for now i plan on keeping 7 on my modern PC build everything works perfectly for the most part. Infact that line in issue is pretty much the only issue that I have. Maybe the Klite Codec Pack that I use changes some settings and causes the audio drivers to freak out?

Hi, ROG MAXIMUS XI HERO user here with windows 10 (lastest version) - iam having issues with my onboard sound:

1) there is no symbol in the taskbar and i was unable to open sonic studio/sonic rada manually - when i try it the windows are closing immediately
2) sometimes i have popping noises while listening to musik

I downloaded and installed the version from the asus mainboard support page... multiple times.

what can i do?

Latest drivers work perfectly, except that nothing seems to fix that annoying ,,blip" sound before any new sound is played. I guess there are no power management settings for HDA drivers ?
