Just thought I'd share some interesting results regarding my memory overclocking between a Z370i and 8700k, and Z390i and 9700K (CPU RMA and I accidentally damaged the pins on the Z370).

Out of the box my Z370 overclocked my Micron E Die ram to 4000 Mhz but not much more, but the latest bios allowed it to run at 4100 but it wasnt fully stable.

With the Z390 out of the box 4000 Mhz wouldnt boot, but following updating to the latest bios I achieved the exact same results.

So keep in mind that memory overclocking can improve with newer bioses, and for me it looks like 4000 Mhz is my rams limit for stability, but thats really good for a 2x16 Gb kit.

Not much else different, I just wish I hadn't been so careless to leave my socket open while waiting for my new CPU, my old board got damaged from my dangling AIO cooler.

i was looking for that info. what memory you have? i got z390 e gaming with 9700k. i bent socket pins not long ago, but seems like i managed to fix and runs good now.
I am about to get 4000mhz kit 2x16. but dont know if it will work and what CL to buy. or maybe 4x8?

Look for Crucial Ballistix 3200 CL16. Its cheap and Micron E die, and you can check that with taiphoon burner (spelling might be different). I was also told that the 3000 Mhz CL15 should also be the same, but the 2400-2666 is much slower Micron B die and what my previous ram was (3000 Mhz CL14 max OC on that).

I actually got the new kit not expecting much more than 3600 CL16 and was extremely surprised how good it is.

2x16 is not guaranteed to get to 4000 Mhz, but it seems like they should most be comfortable with 3600 CL14. The 2x8 Gb has been listed on a lot of extreme OCing forums and pushed up to and above 4800 Mhz on some lucky kits. Even if you just get CL14 3600 out of it its still a bargain for that.

The great thing is the 2x8 Gb costs £78, and 2x16 Gb £150-£160 in the UK, meanwhile Samsunb B Die can cost more than double that and the only thing its does better is tighter secondary and tertiary timings.

I'm going to see if I can get the right tools to try and fix the pins on my Z370, or try appealing to asus support. I could upgrade my backup rig if I can get it fixed which is currently just a G4560 and H170 board or sell it. This was basically my first ever CPU RMA and I completely overlooked putting the socket cover back on after taking it out and waiting for my new one. At least I've learned this now and it wont ever happen again.

your ballistics 3200 cl16 kit worked at 4000mhz?;)
i need 4000mhz to be honest not less. i am even ready to change mobo if it requires so. maybe aorus, seems like people dont have troubles to run 4k+ without any manual adjustment. I have no idea how to OC RAM, so i need something to work out of the box.
It seems like crusial not on the list for qvl 4000mhz. and they dont sell 2x16 kits also. I dont know whether its true or not, but i have read that 9700k is better with 2 slots working rather than 4.

Google Micron E Die and look it up. And yea, thats what Ballistix 3200 CL16 does. They dont bin it any higher so it can be luck of the draw for anything more than 3600 CL14. Depending on where you live you could buy it, try it, send it back.

I'm guessing 4000-4133 is the upper end for the 2x16 Gb kit, and 4600-4800 for 2x8 Gb from reading people's results. It hits the same Cas timing at all such frequencies as Samsung B die, but needs the rest of the timings a lot looser.

I get up to 30ish loops of memtest stable at 4100 Mhz too, but it doesnt do anything better or gain stability at cas 17 and eventually crashes at 4100. 4000 is stable 24/7, and so far my 5.1 Ghz 9700K at 1.3v is as well.

Mind you I'm running my ram at 1.5v for 4000 Mhz CL16, and it needs 1.475v for 3600 CL14, but I've checked via touch and it gets quite warm but not too hot. Oddly 3700-3900 CL15 isnt stable, its CL14 up to 3600 then however high it will go on CL16.

Also compared to Samsung B die which can do 14-14-14 and such, Micron E Die needs 12-16-16 3200, 14-18-18 3600, then 16-20-20 4000 (1.45v+, or 1.35v does 14-16-16 3200).

Crucial just dont bother binning it at all.

Z390-H Bios 2417 SUCKS how can i go back to Bios 2012 please ???

Have two PCs with exact same configuration (ROG STRIX Z390-F, 16 GB RAM, SSDs ...)

- One was built just before September 20 and still has BIOS 1105

- One was built recently and has BIOS 1302

The one with 1105 performed slightly better than the one with 1302.

So I downgraded the BIOS of the 2nd one to 1105, and now it performs as well as the 1st one.

Question: Can we get a clear ChangeLog of what changed in 1302 from 1105?

Hi everyone,

New BIOS 2606 [01/11/2019] for ROG Strix Z390-H Gaming has just been released :

Thread updated.

Just installed the bios and it bricked everything. Removing battery, using jumpers to clear rtc, changing slots in the dimms or using one at a time doesn't do a thing...I can't even see the bios screen... Any help please?

Z390 H gaming, 9700K, G.Skill trident Z 3200/C14

I had a bricked motherboard but that was due to my case spacer hitting the motherboard while carrying the case to another place. However, I did update those bios to the latest and I ended up getting a WHITE LED VGA error that keeps coming back and I still get a display on my monitor. I can play games and stuff but I would have to reboot the PC to make the LED go away. The long short story here, I replaced the motherboard and it's the same brand. I did not reinstall my OS because I was lazy. However, it booted just fine and normal. However, I ended up having a white led VGA error for some reason again. The video card isn't old at all and a year old at all. I kept thinking it's my display port but Micro Center said it's possibly a firmware problem. ASUS needs to know this and look into it to check and see if it is really a bug or what? Has anyone encountered this issue at all? Someone, please post back if you have experienced this. I am very concerned if I try to update bios it'll cause problems so I left it alone since it's a new motherboard. I almost wanna buy a new mobo but I like this motherboard. Get back to me gamers!
