Hi,
All HDA drivers above 6.0.8720.1 are no longer compatible with Windows 7 (technically compatible, but unsigned/unvalidated WHQL for Windows 7)
The HDA - ASUS ROG drivers are in version 6.0.8703.1, so you can install them on Windows 7 (whether you have a ROG, PRIME or TUF motherboard, HDA - ASUS ROG drivers are compatible, only HDA - ASUS PRIME-TUF drivers are not compatible with ROG motherboards).
Ok the drivers seems to be working fine for the most part.
I have a maximus x hero and windows 7. I like these drivers because they dont come with all the extra crap that the ones on the support page come with. I dont care about any of the sonic software stuff. I just want some basic drivers that work well.
Also I can never get the ones on the support page of my mobo to install properly. when I double click on the "asus setup" it just hangs and doesnt do anything.
The only issue I have with these drivers is that the "Line In" stops working after I turn off or reboot my PC. Even if I go into the sound manager and make sure its activated and everything it just wont work anymore. When I first install the drivers and set up my "Line In" (its my ps4 its connected to my monitor so I like to get sound via the line in) its works just fine and the ps4 sounds great with my PC speakers however if I restart my PC the line in stops working eventhough its fully enabled in the windows sound control panel.
The only way to get it to work again is to open up the HDA control panel go into options and tick on "Make front and back output devices playback two different audio streams simultaniously" when I do this the "Line in" starts working again. However if I restart my pc again it will stop working again. I will have to repeat the process to get it to work again.
Do you have any idea why its doing that?

The Microsoft support of Windows 7 ends in ~ 6 months for major public : https://support.microsoft.com/help/4057281/windows-7-support-will-end-on-january-14-2020, I think that the quality check of Realtek are not as pushed as for Windows 10.
I advise you to think about a migration to Windows 10.
