Hi Buckeye8084
There is in consumer law something called "Statutory and Implied Warrantees". If you buy a refrigerator it should at least last you seven years. That is the implied reasoning.
For a $2,000 laptop it should last you at least 5 or 6 years, but the implied reasoning may mean a $500 laptop may last lot less.
In Australia, the "Statutory and Implied Warrantees" are similar to the USA. I personally would not bother to "buy" something that you get as a "given" under law.
Check with your Local, State or Federal fair trading laws and Government Departments that handle such consumer claims.
Just remember that laptops are portable, and that 60% of laptops never leave the house. Yes, they are small and convenient and take up less space, but for $2,000 you could buy TWO elegant desktop models that have larger screens, have better performance, and can be upgraded with more disc space, add ons, etc.
Just remember that in 6 years, parts and spares may no longer exist. In 6 years something much faster and cheaper will appear.
