Antivirus Suggestions?

Not sure how many of you use Anti-Virus applicatiions, but I am interested in getting away from MSE and have not used any others for quite some time. Looking for a stable, easily configured free app, with a small footprint and frequent updates and limited processes running in background.

Hello maf23

Asus gives a free year of Kaspersky with their motherboards and is one of the best antiviruses.

Some free ones are

Adaware
AVG
Avast
Amiti
Avira
Bitdefender
Comodo
FortiClient
Immunet

Antimalware:

Malwarebytes
Spybot Search and Destroy

I am aware of the options and reviews, just interested in personal experiences. I am not interested in "security suites", just protection from malicious downloads. I have used Avast years ago and was satisfied, but don't have recent experience with them. I want an effective (frequently updated) active monitor with minimal Vista-type nag screens. Often even the products with best reviews have some "features" that in the end are deal-breakers (i.e MSE), and they often focus primarily on detection effectivess (to a non-defined threat load) and scan speed only.

Hm, i only use Windows defender or whatever it's called in Windows 10. Seems to work.

Same here I have not installed Kaspersky yet, I occasionally run windows defender and it never finds anything, don't know if that's good or bad lol.

I've used AVG years ago but all the free ones don't find everything.

I always used to use AVG and had no problems, but about 5 years ago changed to Avast and prefer it to AVG because on several occasions it was warned about malicious content on web pages and guided me safely away. It also has a very good boot time scan which I've used to fix other people's pc's. I just get the impression that Avast is actually protecting my system.

I've got the paid version of Bitdefender and it's fit all your other criteria. Can't say how the free version compares but I suspect it'll also do all you're asking for.

I ran Avast for a few years but in the end it got screwed up and absolutely could not be gotten working again *or* uninstalled. Essentially it became the worst virus I ever contended with. Eventually had to do a full wipe and reinstall to get rid of it. Will not use again.
