Addressable RGB headers vs Aura RGB headers

Dumb question I'm sure but I can't find the answer anywhere. with Aura sync still, change the colors or my fans if they are plugged into an addressable RGB header? is the limitation just they wont do the sync patterns like "breathing" and such?
