Z690 Formula - Constant loss of ethernet on load.

axiumone
Level 11
Strange issue here that I don't even know how to troubleshoot. Whenever the ethernet gets loaded past 20 mb/s, theres a high probability that it will disconnect from the internet. I didn't think it was the motherboard at first, but now it seems like it's the only culprit.

Steps tried:
- Variety of different ethernet cables
- Replaced router with asus ax88u
- Tried marvell 3.1.3 and 3.1.6 drivers

After the ethernet adapter says it's not connected to the internet, the only thing that seems to work is funnily enough the built in MS tool that resets the ethernet adapter, after that the connection is back to normal, until the adapter is loaded again.

anyone find a solution or workaround? only thing that works is to restart the pc

i have the latest bios on board and lan drivers from asus site

Thanks for chiming in. Unfortunately the solution I was ultimately given was to RMA the board, and I was not offered Advance RMA so I am in a bind.

i went ahead and dropped the drivers to V3.0.19.0 and i have not locked up yet.

Good to know. I have not tried that driver yet, but ratherÂ*3.1.3.0 and 3.1.6.0(version direct from Marvell's driver page). Please keep us posted if you continue to see this.

Still the same. 3.1.6.0 hasn't made a difference.

so far not as frequent or as bad as the latest drivers, but it still does it

2 months later and this is the only thread I can find about this. Appears to be problems across the board with ASUS, MSI, and other boards with the Marvell Ethernet adapter (built into the mobo). Any consensus on what may be the cause?

I'm not able to replicate it now, but for a while I thought it was a power issue. I have a Universal Audio Arrow, a bus powered thunderbolt 3 audio interface. When I'd unplug my ethernet cable and put it back in, my audio interface would shut off, but my ethernet would be working. I do the same to the thunderbolt cable, my interface turns on, but then my ethernet shows "disconnected". Literally went back and forth, back and forth. Occasionally, I can get -both- working until whenever the ethernet decides to "disconnect".

One thing I'll note that has overall improved my experience, is that on both my computer AND my switch, I set the duplex rating on both to 1gb. This removed the "No Default Gateway" issue I was having, but it still just shows "disconnected" more than half the time.

From reading someone on this thread talk about buying THREE of the same Formula boards, and having the same issue...do we think this is a recall? An RMA? Or we just waiting for Asus to do more with their testing so we can get better drivers? Or maybe it's Marvell's deal entirely? I need to know before it's time for me to return this motherboard lol.

Hi djrend,
Do you mean the ethernet disconnects when you plug in a Universal Audio Arrow and when you unplug the ethernet cable and put it back in, the audio interface would shut off, but my ethernet would be working? and it doesn't occurs every time so you're not able to replicate it now?
Is the ethernet disconnecting without a Universal Audio Arrow plugged in?
Do you also use ROG MAXIMUS Z690 FORMULA motherboard?
May I have the bios version and Marvell Ethernet connection Driver version?
Thank you.

STARRAIN@ROG - It sounds like there are users here and in the following thread indicating that running driver version 3.0.19.0 has resolved the issue for them. I have also since uninstalled the existing 3.1.6.0 driver and installed version V3.0.19.0 and not encountered this issue yet. Is there any chance ASUS tech team can look into this & connect with Marvell about a possible driver/compatibility issue?
