Z590-E: ASUS RTX4090 stuck in PCIE 3.0 mode

Hello,

I installed my just arrived TUF-4090-GAMING-O24 *in my Rog Strix Z590-E PCIE4_1 slot and the card is stuck in PCIE 3.0 x16 mode.
I have i9-11900K with a Samsung 980 Pro installed in M2_1 slot. Drive reports running at PCIE 4.0 x4 mode.
No other PCIE cards installed. Only two NVME drives at M2_3 and M2_4.
Latest BIOS (1402) on board and latest drivers everywhere. Tested with GPU-Z, AIDA64 and HWinfo64. All report the same.

I have already performed a BIOS reset and loaded optimized defaults in BIOS. No change.

Resizable bar is on and reported as active.

OS is Windows 11 22H2, latest patches.

Otherwise the card seem to work fine.

Any idea anyone?

Mee too!
Asus Maximus Apex XIII Z590 motherboard (1402 bios)
Gigabyte RTX 4090 Gaming OC (latest F2 bios)
Tried everything, no result.
I had Palit Gamerock RTX 3080 Ti and MSI RTX 3090 Ti Suprim X before and the motherboard used PCIE 4.0 correctly.

One guy found the solution:
https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/y5wzjf/comment/iuitmwd/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&c...

He'd been in contact with Asus for couple weeks by submitting a ticket.
Tech specialist of Asus support had sent him the mail with a link to a new bios for his Z590-E. He did the update and here it is. 16 x gen 4.0.
I wonder why there is no any 1450 update on the official page of that motherboard.
Hey Asus! We all need 1450 bios for all of our Z590 motherboards, including Maximus XIII Apex, Hero and others.

I am talking with Asus support regarding this issue.

We are in the progress of resetting the BIOS and reinstalling drivers.

I do not expect much from this action.

Has anyone else opened a case with Asus regarding this issue (Z590 chipset and (RTX 4090)?

I am seeing comments regarding the power plugs on those cards, melting. It seems if you bend the wires to one side or the other, it is more likely to happen than if you bring them straight in from the top or bottom.

You may want to disconnect the plug and check it. And I am referring to the 12 pin or whatever, single plug.

I have already checked the connectors. No visible damage so far.

The cables are not bend near the connector.

One thing that comes to mind, and just a very slight possibility is the card is wider and heavier that prior cards. So two things may be involved, first the power supply. Perhaps if it was running low on power, it might be restricted.

The other thing, since the card is heavy, does everyone have special support for both ends of the card. If it were not making good contact in the PCIe slot, it might cause problems.

Sorry, I don't have one to test. But I haven't seen one for sale at my normal places.

Same as you! i also opened a ticket with Asus, just waiting to hear back from their tech. DID YOU HEAR ANYTHING BACK??

My GPU is running on PCIe gen 4 but when i check using GPU-Z it shows that its running on gen 3 or sometimes even lower like 2 or 1.1

I went to the BIOS and changed the speed from auto to gen 4 (Advanced\system agent (SA) configuration\pci express configuration PCIEX16_1 link speed Gen4) but nothing changed

I have latest Driver install and used DDU to uninstall the previous driver, also my windows 10 is up to date, and I updated the BIOS today its version 1402 2022/04/06

I reseated the GPU multiple times and still no change. I also reset the CMOS battery to get a fresh bios and nothing changed.

I have 1300W PSU that i just installed 2 days ago.

Asus ROG STRIX Z590-E Gaming, Intel 11900K, RAM 32 GB, Nvme m.2 gen 4 (WD) Gigabyte RTX 4090.
The case is lian li XL so it has 10 fans and heating was never a problem.

Nothing is overclocked everything in its stock value. I also reloaded the BIOS factory settings.

Here is a screenshot of GPU-Z when on Gen 3

Asus replied and said that the card was faulty not the motherboard.

I've mentioned this thread and a reddit thread with multiple reports, all Z590 and various GPU vendors.

Looks like ASUS living up to their reputation of rubbish support.

In my case they replied that this is a motherboard BIOS issue and that a new BIOS is due Q4/2022.

Go figure...
