Updated Z590-E BIOS and now I got a lot of problems.

Hey all, hoping you can help me out.

I updated my mobo BIOS to the latest version. It went well until it went to reboot normally.

It rebooted but I had no display. I tried again and still nothing. So I switched to integrated graphics and that got me into Windows normally. I looked for my 3080TI in device manager and it was gone. Tried downloading drivers from nvidia but it gives me an error when checking compatibility.

I found a thread online that said to shutdown the computer, remove power, wait, hook back up and restart. I tried that but now I can't get into Windows. I get stuck on the ROG splash screen.

Anyone have any words of wisdom? Thanks. *

in situations like this two possibilities. Hardware problem or windows corruption. Hardware can be tested a little outside independent of windows. If gpu do not display post and bios then look to that asus video troubleshooter. You might check if a bios setting to force video on pcie not integrated. Got video now? Then test memory with a usb flash that has memtest86. Pass? Then next is fix any windows issue with a windows repair reinstall. Better a fresh install, the repair install preserve files and apps. You can find instructions at tenforums.com

In BIOS, video is on AUTO. If I force PCIE, there is no display. I then have to clear CMOS and start over and get video back to AUTO and use iGPU to get a display. That's IF the system posts and gets into Windows. Did the memtest with BIOS and it passed. Reset Windows you mean and start from scratch? Â*

We cant go any further till we get the video card to start immediately at post. You had it working before. And windows is not the issue(yet). No this is some kind of basic hardware issue possibilities are it is not seated, missing a power connection, power supply not delivering enough, bad card.

Hurray! I think I got it!

Changed PCI to Gen 3 and downloaded older game ready drivers. Install went smoothly and I shut down, changed HDMI out from onboard graphics to 3080Ti, restarted and got display!

Currently doing 3D Mark test to make sure the GPU is all good. Â*Â*

I might be confused but that does not matter. Lol. This was a bios setting?

Yah I can select a bunch of different PCI Gens in BIOS. But I'd like to put it back to Gen 4. My time spy score dropped massively

Ok, switching to Gen 4 causes a hang on Q code 96 and no boot. *

Hmmm. I had to ask Nate about power connections for your card, and thought it worth asking if you have two 8 pin power connectors connected to the video card? The video card has a 12 pin connector and they connect there is my understanding.

Thanks.Â*

I switched back to Gen 3 and everything works again. Starting Flight Sim to see what performance is like. Â*

I only find one suggestion on the net to set bios for this type card to Gen 3 but maybe it is correct. Let us know if your getting good benchmarks. Good work figuring that out.

I should have mentioned at the beginning of the thread. This GPU is mounted using a riser. Someone on reddit suggested that it is a Gen3 riser cable. Perhaps that is why Gen3 only works?Â*
