ROG Strix z690A Gaming WiFi WHEa 17 Errors

Grendel602
Level 7
Swapped my fully functioning 3090RTX, 9900K, Z390 Gigabyte Designare setup for a brand new Z690 and 12900K rig.

After swapping all components over to the Gaming Wifi MOBO and 12900k combo, install WIN 11 and I get thousands of WHEA errors for ven_8086&dev_ 460d&SUBSYS_86941043&REV_02

I also get random hangup, BSODS, and straight crashes.

I'm a day of frustration away from RMA. I swapped back to old system and all works perfectly with 9900k and Z390 mobo, so the only possible hardware issue is the mobo or CPU....I guessing this is a mobo hardware component issue.

PCI ID Repository suggests it is a 12th Gen Core Processor PCI Express x16 Controller #1.

Device manager showed no issues with any hardware.

Hi Respawn2k10,
Do you mean the games close itself without any error message and get Error WHEA-Logger id 1?
How often do the games crash? For example, every time when you are playing tarkov or the cycle frontier about 1hr, it crash to desktop?
Have you reinstalled the games?
Do the games crash on bios 1304 with bios all default settings except PCI express Native power management disabled?
Thank you.

Hello, first of all thanks for helping me !

SO , my pc freeze completely in game. I'm playing for 10min to 45min then it freeze. I'm on last bios 1304.
I've tried : Fresh full instrall of windows 11. notrhing changed. I've not overclock anything. Computer is stable under windows, but not on games.

I've disable in bios what you've said about PCI native power management. The error WHEA-Logger id 17 is not there anymore but ... it's still crash and when the game / pc crash / freeze ( without BSOD ) , i have an id 1 WHEA-Logger.

Thanks for your help again.

Out of curiosity, are you using a riser cable and/or a good quality 850W+ PSU? 3080Ti has some outrageous spikes.

Mine (riser cable) caused chaos but other than that, the workarounds I used are a few pages back.

I have an Asus Thor 1200w psu and yes, i have a riser it's an asus one.
Do you think that the riser can cause this problem ? it's not a bad idea to check of course !

Yeah, I do bud. I would give it a whirl without the riser and see how you get on. My issues were down to my Corsair Gen3 riser.

There are content pieces on YT about what a nightmare they _can_ be.

Best of Luck.

Nice try, after checking the spec of the Riser by Asus it's only a Gen3 compatible, might be the issue there. I 've plug my GPU without riser, we will see how it works.

Thanks by the way ! i will let you know

Hello i'm new here.
just bought a i7 12700K with Asus Z690 Hero and have random crash when gaming. Having the WHEA-Logger ID 17 error too on windows 11.
Got an RTX 3080 Ti brand new.

This is kind of really boring, while i'm playing tarkov and The cycle frontier, every crash i lost everything. Starting to get me nervous.
I've read a little bit of this thread but what can i do to avoid crashing with my computer ? Change Motherboard for another brand ??? Sad ...

Thanks for any help !

update 20h12 :

I've disable PCI express Native power management and don't get the error ID 17 anymore but now it still crash and get Error WHEA-Logger id 1.

COme on guys ... what is going on with your motherboard ???? At that range of price ....

Hey - any update on this for your machine? In exact same boat and am starting to really regret buying this Asus strix z690 motherboard.Â*

Hi Prong,
Thank you for your reply.
For sound issue, please also try the following settings.
Enable Stereo Mix > Click Properties > change to
    page and tip

Do you get brief random sound dropouts with Realtek USB Audio Driver V6.3.9600.2307 from our support site?
How often does it occur? Does it occur when running the specific apps or playing the specific mp3?
      Thank you.

This issue is affecting other brands too, check out this not so small thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/gigabyte/comments/s1kq27/gigabyte_z690i_owners_pcie_40_problems_post_here/

A user named linkyi who seems to be from Gigabyte is stating they are going to RMA the boards as they confirm it's a hardware issue.
Here is a link to that user profile with their latest posts where you can read they are stating gigabyte is working on the logistics on how to do so.

I'm having the same problem with a z690-e. Also, all of my games crash. Cinebench crashes on the latest BIOS, but works on the original BIOS. Not sure what's going on, but I can't play any games on my new computer. Getting fault bucket 0 errors when games crash. Tons of WHEA 17 errors in event viewer.
