ROG GL752 will not charge internal battery

captinG
Level 7
My ROG GL752VW will not charge its battery. The original charger quit (No output voltage using VOM).
Replace charger. will not charge original battery. Performed EC Reset- nothing
Replaced battery
with new battery installed showing 5% charge -System boots up everthing looks good windows plays fine for a few minutes
Battery icon shows chargeing for 6 0r 7 cycles and quits. after a few minutes of operation goes into sshutdown with low battery.
Ihave googled and read many posts and am not clear whether this model laptop should run without battery or low battery on charger alone???
I can jumper the charger to the battery leads and charge it up and everything works for aout 20 minutes- No charging on the icon, windows shows "plugged in"
I have went through all the steps here asus.com/us/support/FAQ//1012793 these include:
EC Reset
Update BIOS downloaded version 303 and installed
Did the reset BIOS in Legacy Mode and confirmed 303 version installed.
Can't run battery diagnostics in the MYASUS program as GL752 isn't supported for this
Reinstalled the battery/ACadapter drivers in windows device manager.
After all of this the result is always the same -Laptop will not charge battery or run on charger alone-HELP

Is your replacement charger genuine? Kind of sounds like there could be an issue with that charger.
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station…

the new charger from amazon seems to have the same specs 120W 19V 6.32A Power Adapter PA-1121-28 A15-120P1A AC Power Charger Compatible Asus rog gl752- Not asus branded oem

I have googled and read many posts and am not clear whether this model laptop(ROG GL752VW) should run without battery or low battery on the charger alone???
Anybody know the answer?

Hello
Good day, technically this model support boot up without battery or low battery with charging in.
According to your test result, assume there two possible point. ower ic on mainboard didn't work.
The other is connection between mainboard and battery has something wrong . No matter what root cause
I will suggest issue RMA to do further diagnostic.
Soft remind, even spec is the same (120W 19V 6.32A Power Adapter), mainboard will recognize hw id by adapter.
If it's possible , please have another the same ASUS adpter to try again. Thank you.

Thank you.

Alvez thanks for the reply.
I am expecting delivery of Asus branded oem adapter/charge soon.
I will test when it arrives- I did not know about "mainboard will recognize hw id by adapter" -maybe this new adapter will solve problem

New asus branded oem adapter/charger arrived yesterday. I tried it out and the results are the same.
1 In windows the battery icon pulses 4 or 5 times indicating charging then stops.
2 Windows reports "plugged in"
3 charged state of the battery rapidly decreases at about 2% per minute
4 orange led is glowing indicating charging?Windows runs normally until low battery shutdown?
5 Disconnected battery - will not run at all on just charger/adapter power
Summary
I have replaced the original battery with new asus branded one
replaced adapter charger with asus brande one
replaced with OEM ASUS ROG GL752VW Series 17.3" DC Dc-in Power Jack W/ Cable
This is frustrating since everything works with the laptop after jumpering the charger to the battery and
building up the battery charge for a few hours. But this discharges from 100% to 15% charge under windows in about a 1/2 hour?
ANY IDEAS. HELP

If it's discharging in 1/2 hour after hours of charging then it's either not actually full (battery calibration/display issue) or there is an electrical short causing rapid discharge. Even heavy usage wouldn't discharge a fully charged battery that fast. If the battery is getting hot that could be an indication of rapid discharge. Since you replaced it you might just be needing a few charge cycles to reset the battery calibration but given you can't properly charge that would be difficult to confirm.

Since you've replaced everything else it would seem to be something with the laptop itself. I gather nothing looks broken or damaged around power input? If you haven't already make sure to look down the barrel of the jack to make sure the pin isn't damaged or a foreign object is in there.

Oh, and you're sure the replacement battery was brand new and not a pull from another 752? It would suck to troubleshoot this if it's actually a used battery.

Xeromist thanks for the reply.
The battery was sold as new "New 15V 48Wh Asus A41N1501" it is identical looking to the original- with new packing and no signs of removal from another unit.
I too am suspicious of the current draw pulling the battery down at such a fast rate .

I have checked the pin in the barrel of the dc jack (new) -it looks ok

Since the new ASUS AC adapter/charger will not run the computer without the battery connected (as it should according to Alvez's post of 2/17/22) Does this indicate the charger can't handle a large current draw without the battery. When I disconnect the battery from the motherboard and plug in the charger no LEDs lite -The power on key doesn't lite and nothing happens when it is pressed or pressed and held?

Today I removed the motherboard, fan, ssd, ram memory and searched for indicators of a short-nothing found.
Replaced everything and jumper charged battery -everything works but battery charge display shows same rapid discharge rate. windows reports plugged in and pulses the battery icon 4 or 5 times.

If I knew a $300 replacement motherboard would solve the problem I would do it, but I have no confidence in that yet. ANY THOUGHTS

I can't say I remember if I've ever seen another 752 owner document attempting to boot without a battery but Alvez says it should work. So that to me indicates a mainboard problem. Looking at pictures of the internals it appears the actual power socket may not be soldered to the mainboard but attached to the chassis and has a plug to the mainboard? If so there is a slim chance something is actually wrong with that bit of hardware.

If it was me and I was attached to the 752 I would probably look for a whole machine on Ebay with some other defect like a broken screen. That would allow you to assemble one working machine and have some parts left over. Buying just the motherboard might be almost as expensive because often the sellers who offer individual components are actually businesses that have to charge higher prices to cover operating expenses. Buying a broken machine from an individual who doesn't have the time or skills to part it out could save you money.

Anyway, wish I had better advice but at this point you've already replaced the easy and less expensive stuff. You just have to decide whether it's a better use of your money to stay with what you have or spend more to update to something newer.
