No Audio Device Detected (other than Monitor) - Maximus IX Hero

CitizenKane

Hi

Slightly strange one.

I recently upgraded my system to Windows 10, having previously used Windows 7 for years. All hardware has been kept the same but the only issue I am having is that I now cannot seem to identify any audio devices - nothing is showing up in the Device Manager or Sound settings - except, strangely enough, for my monitor (ROG Swift PG279Q, via DisplayPort) which is still showing up as an audio device. When I used Windows 7 the monitor would also show up as an audio device, in addition to the internal Realtek HD audio. So I can get audio from the monitor (including via the headphone jack), but not from anywhere else (e.g. the headphone jacks on the motherboard itself).

I have tried installing the latest Realtek drivers but to no avail.

I also tried to install Sonic Studio 3 but I get an error message saying "device not supported" (I am not sure what "device" that is even referring to).

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Many thanks in advance.

My setup is:

Motherboard: Maximus IX Hero
CPU: Intel i7 7700k
GPU: Nvidia GTX 980Ti Hybrid
SSD: Samsung Evo 970 2TB
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000 C5 (2x8GB)
Cooler: Noctua NH-D15
PSU: 850w
Monitor: ROG Swift PG279Q

Was this a clean installation or an upgrade from Windows 7? If this was an upgrade in place you might have to go for a clean install. If you have an extra drive (even an old hard drive) you could try a clean install on that first to see if it fixes the issue without having to wipe your main drive.
A bus station is where a bus stops. A train station is where a train stops. On my desk, I have a work station…

Hi there,

It was a clean install. Sorry I should have made that clearer in the OP. I have kept all hardware the same other than a fresh hard drive (Samsung Evo 970) on which I did a clean install of Windows 10.

Hello, CitizenKane.

It might be caused by the incompatibility between your current driver version and the OS version.
It is recommended that you refer to the following link to update drivers.
https://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/1044671/
Or go to the official support page of the relevant hardware to download the driver version that supports the Windows 10 version.

Thank you.

Hi there,

I've actually installed the drivers referred to on this page I came across: https://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?117596-DRIVERS-Realtek-Audio-(Intel-2xx-3xx-4xx-5xx-6xx-7x... which I understand to be the most up to date ones?
