Asus dark hero startup issue ?

Hi all
I have a Asus Crosshair VIII DarkHhero ...with an AMD 5900X , 32gb of Gskils ram

Had a few times over last few months since recieving board where the system wont power on.
You press power switch on case and nothing .
You press power button on motherboard ...nothing ....and its lit up white ...all rgb is working ( on when powered off )
If i turn off PSU and back then power it back on ...system boots fine.
It can then be fine for say 4 weeks ...then happen out the blue again.
Was ok with old motherboard....so only things that have changed is MB and CPU.

Tried reflashing bios back to earlier version ...no different.
Had new graphics card since last time so rules that out.
Tried taking ram sticks out ...no difference.

Seems starnge how can run for weeks without issue ( but dont use it every day )

Im using an EVGA supernova 850W PSU.

Not major issue as all have to do is power off PSU and all good again ...but got to be something wrong.
Asus say sounds like something tripping PSU protection ...will have to try unpluging 24 pin and 8 pin cables next time , then plug back in to see if motherboard or psu .

Any help most appreciated.

Interesting. Can we get more people with the Armory app to try this out? Disabling RGB fixing the start up issues?
I would try it myself but I have not and will not install the Armory Crate app considering the very many issues it has caused people in the past....

After shutting down and turning on five times during the day, it has now happened again. Shut down, waited about 5 seconds and the PC would not turn on.
So the Armory app has nothing to do with it.

Hi Vitacola,
May I double confirm when the system ran for quite a long time, >12h or even 1-2 days, although you shut down the pc and turn on immediately, it cannot turn on every time?
Thank you.

Hi NuadaXXX,
Do you mean reset RGB settings to default or disable RGB in Armoury Crate?
Do you remember the RGB settings while the issue occurred? Did the issue happen every time you shut down or put it to sleep mode with the RGB settings?
If you shut down or put it to sleep mode and then turn it on or wake it up immediately, does the issue occur?
May I know the temperature at the place you put the pc while the issue occurred?
May I have the serial number of the motherboard via PM?
Thank you.

Exactly. Like last night, after the computer was running for about 8h. Turned off and then it would not turn back on.
After resetting the PSU I did 3 more tests and the computer started every time. Also this morning after it was off for 8h it let turn on.

I mean Reset RGB to default over the bios. (to factory reset) (i think its a good way as workaround)

no, no idea what RGB setting the issue reproduce.

atm i have no issues no sleep no colt start, after ich changed the RGB settings to a other in Armoury Crate. (but it is not 100% sync if i change LED to off, if i turn pc off, then the RGB goes not fully off, changed over Armoury.

it also fixed the start problems from the Dark Hero of me friend with changed RGB settings

We have also see if we change the RGB settings to full in the bios, also i mean from Aura only to Full its go back to Aura Only.

something is not ok with that options

15-25c

yes

Hi NuadaXXX,
I don't quite understand what exactly you changed in the BIOS and in the app? The order is certainly not completely unimportant, too?
Maybe you can give a step by step guide ...then I and others can test and confirm if it leads to success.

So just turning off RGB in Armory App is not your trick, right?

Regards

hi no idea what is imported and what not, I has changed RGB and after that I got days after start issues, then i going again to Armoury and has changed the profile to anything, and then back to default, and i have turned off all the standby options in Armoury. (but if i turn the power from the PC off the LEDs are still on "aura") i think this is also bug.... but it is off in the software.

then it was days working. and after i have see this i have uninstall armoury.. bäm the day after i got again start issues.

then i have do the same again. and after it was again working for days. i have windows reinstalled. and now i got 2 weeks no problems without armoury.

but it is still my RED standby color activated. Even though it's on display.

(and i got also the problem with s4 and s5 it was a bit working but the error is occure from time to time) only messing around with the RGB settings helpet me

just adjust something and reset it, and then it is best not to open Armoury for several days.

Hi Xairoo,
Your RMA case is advanced ship process for the distributor. We have created RMA first on 11/8 to ship the replacement to the distributor, and then the distributor need to send the motherboard back for RMA. The distributor have sent back your motherboard on 11/16. However, it may take a while(about 2 weeks) since it is non-EU shipment and some time may be needed to release the shipment.
Once our repair center receive your motherboard, they will check if the issue can be reproduced.
Thank you.

I prefer to speak openly, honestly and directly.
Forgive me when I say that this is a really slow process. That's nothing against you and that's definitively not your fault.
In this case it should be handled/shipped faster.
But yeah, a customer will place this issue in a higher priority. Specially because it's not only happening to one mainboard.

PS: The issue still happened to my replacement board only once.

Hi STARRAIN@ROG,

can you confirm that the board has arrived at the repair center?
Nearly 3 weeks since the distributor has shipped the board to Asus. Snail climate friendly shipping is faster 😉
Oh and yeah even more... I dropped the board on 10/27 in the store. Fascinating how sloooooooooooow some processes can be.

Just give us an update.

Thanks.
