Asus dark hero startup issue ?

Hi all
I have a Asus Crosshair VIII DarkHhero ...with an AMD 5900X , 32gb of Gskils ram

Had a few times over last few months since recieving board where the system wont power on.
You press power switch on case and nothing .
You press power button on motherboard ...nothing ....and its lit up white ...all rgb is working ( on when powered off )
If i turn off PSU and back then power it back on ...system boots fine.
It can then be fine for say 4 weeks ...then happen out the blue again.
Was ok with old motherboard....so only things that have changed is MB and CPU.

Tried reflashing bios back to earlier version ...no different.
Had new graphics card since last time so rules that out.
Tried taking ram sticks out ...no difference.

Seems starnge how can run for weeks without issue ( but dont use it every day )

Im using an EVGA supernova 850W PSU.

Not major issue as all have to do is power off PSU and all good again ...but got to be something wrong.
Asus say sounds like something tripping PSU protection ...will have to try unpluging 24 pin and 8 pin cables next time , then plug back in to see if motherboard or psu .

Any help most appreciated.

Would I also be eligible for an RMA considering when I purchased the board?

Sorry for the delay in replying. If it has been over a year then probably not. It depends on when the receipt says it was purchased. You'd have to call support and ask. They can look up the serial no. for confirmation.

Hi all,
For ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK, the start up issue is under investigation.
I'll keep you updated if there is any news.
Thank you.

Sounds like you have been able to reproduce?

I have this problem too, i must unplug PSU wait until M/B lights and start button light to go out then re-plug the PSU otherwise it refuses to start from the case button or the M/B start button, its a brand new Dark Hero board which replaced my Asus B550-E which worked perfect, i updated to bios version 3801 as soon as i got it, its a 4 month old build with a Ryzen 7 5800x , Sapphire extreme Rx 6900 xt, 32 gig 16, 19, 19 , 36 Corsair ram @3600mhz, its not happening all the time mostly in the mornings when its been sat a while however i have had it do it once when i turned it off in the day and about 2 mins later i tried to restart and it would not without unplugging it, i can replicate this fault every time by holding the start button down and dumping the PC, it never starts then without unplugging then, i have also replaced my 4 month old Corsair RM1000w PSU with a brand new platinum HX1000 corsair PSU believing the problem was coming from the PSU then i googled the Dark hero not stating without being un-pluged and i found this thread so i belive its clearly the motherboard, once in windows the PC is perfectly stable with any stress test i can throw at it, its happening with both bios default settings or overclocked settings, i read someone's post in here saying that if you clear coms then put all your settings in at one time it cures it, so i did that and for a few days it was ok, however last night i made one setting change to the bios and this morning it would not start again, weather that is a coincidence or not i don't know but maybe its something for you guys to go on i don't have armoury installed and never use the sleep function.

Hi all,
Some customers have sent the ROG CROSSHAIR VIII DARK motherboard to RMA, and the motherboards would be sent to tech team in headquarter for further analysis.
I'm afraid it would take some time for shipping the motherboard, and especially the issue is random, so it would take a longer time to reproduce and analyze the issue.
I'll keep you updated if there is any news.
Sorry for any inconvenience it may cause.

Hi mate

Thank you for your reply, but could I ask what's the purpose of asking for the SN? I image that we are not along and Asus head office must have received a number of the boards with same issue since this thread only has been here for almost 5 months.
Could I ask what's the process here for a RM situation like this? I have the problem right of the box so the product is pretty much a DOA, I have borrowed an X570 from a mate to test and have to return it soon, then I'll end up no computer hopefully for not too long 😞

Hi 9junes,
I keep collecting the serial number to see if there is any commonality, but we don't find the clues from the serial number so far.
Because it is random issue and it would be difficult to reproduce in repair center, so it would take longer time for RMA.
If it is within DOA period, please consult the dealer first.
Thank you.

Thank you for explaining, that make sense, does that mean I have to wait until Asus find/solve the issue before I can get any process for RMA? Any change I can get a new board when you receive the old one so I wont end up without computer for months?

Hi all.
I bought Asus Dark Hero a few days ago and faced the same problem with startup. This problem is irregular. It turns on ok for several days, and next time you have to turn off the PSU to turn on the computer. OS Windows 10 pro fresh and clean. Installed only drivers, Armoury Crate and fews games from Steam. No overclock, all by default in bios.
I have read all the posts and do not hope for an instant solution. My post is for the asus to see that the problem is not an isolated one. Thx.

My configuration:

CPU - 5950x
MB - Asus dark hero. Bios Version 3801
RAM - G.SKILL Trident Z Neo F4-3800C14D-32GTZN (2 x 16GB)
PSU - Thermaltake Toughpower Grand RGB 750W
HDD - SSD Samsung 850 EVO. SSD Samsung 850 Pro.
VGA - MSI 2080 S GAMING X TRIO

And again...

DOA is limited to 14 days in my case. Just saying.

I can't recommend this board, only for experimental stuff but it's not production ready.

Also it's still not clear that we will get a patch for this. Maybe it can't be fixed by an BIOS update.

What a ****ty product, sorry, but I wasted too much of my lifetime because of this faulty piece of hardware.

I hope Asus will offer a customer friendly replacement if it can't be fixed within a month or so (that's a long time).

That means: Asus should send the customers a working replacement before the customer has to return this mass failing product back.

It's not only one customer having this problem. So why should the customer spend again a lot of money for a new board. Nearly no one has a replacement board lying around, specially not such a heavily priced one. And even if: What if the replacement board also starts sucking? Getting a new one? Drive to the retailer and get a replacement within the DOA? Or wait again weeks or month for the replacement? Holy, no.
