Asus dark hero startup issue ?

Hi all
I have a Asus Crosshair VIII DarkHhero ...with an AMD 5900X , 32gb of Gskils ram

Had a few times over last few months since recieving board where the system wont power on.
You press power switch on case and nothing .
You press power button on motherboard ...nothing ....and its lit up white ...all rgb is working ( on when powered off )
If i turn off PSU and back then power it back on ...system boots fine.
It can then be fine for say 4 weeks ...then happen out the blue again.
Was ok with old motherboard....so only things that have changed is MB and CPU.

Tried reflashing bios back to earlier version ...no different.
Had new graphics card since last time so rules that out.
Tried taking ram sticks out ...no difference.

Seems starnge how can run for weeks without issue ( but dont use it every day )

Im using an EVGA supernova 850W PSU.

Not major issue as all have to do is power off PSU and all good again ...but got to be something wrong.
Asus say sounds like something tripping PSU protection ...will have to try unpluging 24 pin and 8 pin cables next time , then plug back in to see if motherboard or psu .

Any help most appreciated.

You don't have a 2000 series Nvidia GPU or any other GPU than a 3080? Looks like you can reproduce this really fast. Perhaps I should try to shutdown my system to force this problem. Sleep problem doesn't appears so often, I think.

Would be great if you can test it too with an other (none 3000) GPU!

I have my old 1080 to hand. That will be an interesting test right?

Just test it and let us and specially Asus know!

All right, I tested my 2080 since yesterday. Worked until now - wasn't able to wake the system from sleep (~3 hours).

RMA the board? Btw. I'll try a DOA. Don't want to waste more money. Also looking around for a different motherboard (passive chipset cooling).

Has anyone read about such problems from other boards or is this only Dark Hero related? No idea.
And sooooo many boards aren't in stock. That's so bad because time is running.

@Asus, any idea if there is a big chance that the same model will be faulty again? Please let me know ASAP. I can get the same model within a few hours from my retailer.

Hi hakai,
Thank you for your reply.
How long did it shut down or sleep and occur often? about 30mins or over 5hr?
Could you please send our RMA for further examination and share the serial number and RMA number to me via PM?
Thank you.

Hi,

Like I said, if I actually get the computer to either sleep or power off then I can wake up or power on without issues. The problem happens at the moment of puting it to sleep or powering it off. I notice this because in the case of trying to put it to sleep the ram leds turn off while the pcb leds, rog logo, start button remain on. So i basically power cycly the psu right at that moment and i will be able to power it on. I haven't left it like that for any period of time but on sucessfull sleep or power off i've left it like that for maybe 5-6 tops.

I'll probably RMA the board during the weekend and will send you the information requested.

Hi Big B,
Thank you for your reply.
When did you swap the 2080 TI with the 3080 TI? a week?
Could you please send our RMA for further examination and share the RMA number to me via PM?

I replaced the 2080 TI with a 3080 TI on 20. Oct. 2021, which would be ~5 days before my initial post here.
I am however a bit hesitant to RMA the board as of now, as the system is working fine otherwise (an was working flawlessly before the graphics card replacement).

Since Oct. 26th I ran the system with "nearly default" settings

(BIOS defaults +
- AI Overclock Tuner: D.O.C.P. standard
- SVM Mode: Enabled
- Boot / Secure boot / OS-Type: Windows UEFI Mode
- Advanced / AMD fTPM config: Enable Firmware TPM
- Resize BAR: ON
- Download and Install Armory Crate App: OFF)

and had so far 2 failed starts out of 8 reboots, which seems less frequent than before with my original bios settings (4 failed out of 6).

Hi Sackdragon,
Because the model is different, could you please create a new thread for discussion?
Thank you.

Good day to all. Sorry for my english, I am using google translate. I confirm the problem with the dark hero motherboard. My configuration is thermaltake toughpower grand rgb 750 80 plus gold standart, cpu- 5800x, vga-sapphire 5700xt nitro +, ram-4 * 8gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro CMW32GX4M4C3600C18. Default bios settings, version 3801. s \ n mb M7M0KC122044BX4. I have not experimented with the settings in bios S4 + S5 yet. I do not take the computer into sleep mode, I just turn it off completely. All of these components on the ROG CROSSHAIR VII HERO motherboard worked fine. I think you need to admit that there is a defect in these motherboards or fix this problem in the next version of the BIOS. Thanks.

Hi Xairoo,
I'm sorry we are not sure the root cause now, so I cannot guarantee is there the same issue on the same model.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
If you have returned the motherboard for DOA/RMA, could you please let me know?
Thank you.
