hi guys i already have a 2500k in a sli gtx670 setup. was just considering changing to a 3770k and was wondering for gaming if this was a good idea, i think i need it to be able to use both my pcie slots at 16x, currently running 8x. how much of a difference would i gain. also what would a used 2500k be worth on say ebay starting price?

I think I may have found the problem. It seems this happens more when coming on from a sleep state and I have read that it is because I had the hard drive shutting down too. I have changeable setting so the hdd never sleeps. Hopefully that works. Could this effectively be the problem

Problems of instability with sleep states, and waking from sleep state is normally indicative of system instability. In fact loading up the system with heaps of open applications and then putting the system to sleep and seeing if it will wake successfully is a form of stability testing.

I would test my settings with Memtest86+ and/or some similar kind of stress test.

i have run memtest both on stock 1333mhz setting and xmp at 1600mhz, everything passed fine. i am running intel burn test at the moment, i pushed the multiplier to 45x to get 4.5ghz, change the VCORE to 1.35 volts, and i have disabled C1 and EIST, and have changed LLC from auto to Turbo, i have also entered my ram timings manually and so far it seems to be passing intel burntest. highest temps so far is 64 deg c on one of four cores. so not really sure what has been causing the instability. i will work my voltage down from there, but am probably going to get the 3770K and H100 today anyway
