hi guys i already have a 2500k in a sli gtx670 setup. was just considering changing to a 3770k and was wondering for gaming if this was a good idea, i think i need it to be able to use both my pcie slots at 16x, currently running 8x. how much of a difference would i gain. also what would a used 2500k be worth on say ebay starting price?

If you overclock your 2500K to about 4.2GHz then honestly there is no difference between the two. The 2500K is cooler and will allow you to overclock higher than the 3770K on your current cooling.

The additional 4 threads that HT brings to the party does not make any real difference in 99% of current games. In fact I do not know of any games that use 8 threads. Your 2500K has 4 as it is. 🙂

How ever from the bragging rights or epeen point of view 3770K is so sweet.

Cheers hi viz plus already have someone interested in buying the I5 so could work out okay. Gotta go see about a 3770k tomorrow. Was thinking picking up h100 while there too

Now we are talking buddy, you are going to have one kick-butt system. Post up some pic's when you are done.

I'm probably not going to overclock. Just want the k like the 2500k for future if needed. Would I actually need to water cool the 3770k? Or could I pick up a noctua cooler and ditch my hyper ego?

The Noctua NH-D14 or Thermalright Silver Arrow are very similar in performance with the H100... and both of them are way better than the "hyper ego" 🙂 (I assume you wanted to say Hyper Evo from CM) Two things you have to consider though... 1. these two guys are really big boys... - you have to check if they would fit in your case, and also if they would let enough clearance for your memory modules; 2. you also have to consider the airflow... - which setup would be able to get the most coolest air (that's usually the ambient temp one), in this matter, you can setup the H100 as intake from outside...

Me I like a good quality air cooler over the closed loop water cooled kits any day.
