Will a generic battery work with a asus laptop?

I bought an Amstron replacement battery for my Eee PC 1015PN and it takes two days to charge : http://wwww.caccu.nl/asus-eee-pc-1015pn-batterij.html . Is this typical of new laptop batteries? Do off-brand batteries not work well with asus? What should I do?

Generally not recommended as they don't last as long and could void the product's warranty.

However, since the Eee line of netbooks has been discontinued it has been very difficult if not impossible to acquire the factory battery.

So, i'd say in this case you really don't have a lot of options.

I had to use a similar battery for one of my school customers (has 10-15 netbooks)

Ditto to @Shawnnepc, especially as batteries are getting smarter and smarter, so it isn't nearly as easy to make a battery that properly interfaces with the system and reports its charge level properly.
