Hey all, so i finished building my rig, everything is in..

i7 3770k
corsair dominator platnium 8gb 2133 mhz
Asus maximus v formula board
thermaltake gold tough power 1050w psu
gtx asus direct cu II top
corsair 600t case
h100 cooler . .... cant fit push / pull very dissapointed.

i got 1 200mm fan blowing in from the front (in)
2x fan on top blowing cold air through the h100 radiator (in)
1x 120mm fan on the rear blowing air in (in)
4x 120 mm fan on the side pulling air out (out)
and 1 lian li pci-e cooler x 2 120mm fan blowing air into the graphics card right below where the graphics card sucks air in.

now i wanna have a chat on msn or skype or what ever it is that you have and so i can have someone personally assist me with the o.c
i want to hit 4.8-5ghz

if you are confident and would like to help me out then lets have a chat and ill help you out by giving u some cash through paypal. AUD currency 🙂

Thanks guys

Hi mate
im not really good with overclock but as far as i know to get up that high i think u should consider using LN2 if that helps.
Anyway good luck with the overclock 🙂

All the help you will need is pretty much right here on this forum and if you do a bit of reading first there are plenty who will help and for the best price....freeeee!

Have a look at this thread: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?19186-ASUS-ROG-Maximus-V-Formula-UEFI-OC-Tuning-Guide&count...

If there is stuff you don't understand just ask....there are no dumb questions at ROG.

One thing you have to know is that there is no recipe for this kind of thing. Each system is different and ultimately the best OC you will get is the one you find yourself by experimenting. But of course systems are similar and we can all help with ballpark suggestions.
Also Ivy bridge reaches a point, at the frequencies you are going for, where the heat ramps up a lot. And a H100 might not be able to cool sufficiently. In the end it is probably temperatures that will be the limiting factor.

Yeah heat is the problem. my main problem though is not know what to set voltages and offset + - etc

Yeah, I can understand that and as you can see HiVizMan has given you a good starting point.

Couple of things while you try this. Don't have more than one monitoring program running at any one time. You may not get good readings. For temperature use Real Temp or core temp and for checking voltage use CPUz. Don't for example have AI suite running in the background at the same time. Start off with manual voltage and once you have found a stable manual voltage (reading from CPUz) we'll talk about offset.

Overclocking is filled with trial and errors as processors are different. There is no certain amount what voltage you should have at what frequency.
For a starter put Ai overclock tuner at Manual and then put CPU multiplier at 45 with cpu voltage somewhere between 1.28-1.33v and check the temperatures.

There will be NO payment for any assistance offered here. And in future I will delete any reference to that practice.

If you have the cooling for 4.5GHz then it is easy. A good water cooling system will be good to go, 4.8GHz is again only constrained by cooling.

Simple process

XMP as your mode to take the ram out of the OC'c equation.

Set your multiplier to 45 or 48

Increase your Vcore to 1.400 (start there)

Leave all the rest on auto for now.

F10 to boot into OS.

If you fail, return to BIOS and increase your vcore. Should not be needed however

If you succeed. Run some stress test for 20 mins and watch temperatures the whole time. Use HWmonitor or AIDA64 freeware. Do not use AISuite if you have installed it remove ASAP. Or reinstall OS which ever is easier.

If your system is passing the stress test, AIDA has a built in one that is good.

Then go back to BIOS and reduce your voltage by one click.

Repeat until your system falls over during the stress test.

Once that happens back into BIOS and up the voltage by two clicks.

Done deal. Save and exit.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

NomadVP,

sorry to hear about your push/pull. Sometimes it is hard to avoid things we couldn't forsee but there are ways around the problems you have. I have a h100 also and get great temps but i have it pushing hot air straight up out the top of my nzxt phantom. The only thing is i get backdraft into the case at the moment without pull fans because not all of the air pushed goes through the rad. While this is evidently (due to my temp ranges) not a disadvantage as such, i do plan to experiment with some delta ffb-1212eh-f00 SLIM 120mm x 24mm 4k rpm/252cfm fans once i change over this 3820 to a 3930k. If not i may have to mount it outside of the case. I don't mind the noise generated by these deltas, in fact it relaxes me!

If you're going for max overclocks and you're concerned about cooling doing its job for that end, consider indigo xtreme thermal pads and dedicating the flow of your system fans to the intakes of your h100. With my setup, i have the rear system fan as an intake rather than exhaust, side panel fan as an intake, top fan replaced w/ h100 fans pushing up (with space for pull fans at later date), front fan exhaust with two nzxt sidepanel fans for the hdd bays pushing across and out the front & side rear panel, to reduce the amount of warm air to the system/h100 intakes. This has worked the best for me in my scenario.

About your OC,
i say enjoy your system and get into oc'ing. what you learn today will help you (incl. friends/relatives/strangers) invest smarter in the future and if something goes wrong you are the first line of support- you will never have to continue paying anybody for the right to reliability and system uptime when something occurs and you don't understand the cause.

I agree with Hivizman in regards to the payments but in your words i can sense the excitement and impatience to quickly get your system up to optimum. Im betting you have some fragging to do right? 😉
