I prefer to stay away from huge drives because if they fail or die, you lose everything. On the other hand if you had 2 separate drives, you can split that data up between them and even if one dies, you'll only lose 50% of your stuff. But that's just me. 😛

I will be purchasing 4 of these drives for a RAID 10 setup for my data. My OS is on an SSD

As for the WD Velociraptor, I maybe wrong, but I don't believe that TLER is enabled and that the firmware won't let you enable it. I know this is true for WD Caviar Blacks built after April '11 or so.

If anyone has any other suggestions that would work well in a RAID, I'm open to them.

I'm asking because the Hitachi is cheaper, but I would like to get the WD's. Am I sacrificing the quality for a few dollars? Or I'm I paying extra for a brand name?
