What to Expect from My 7700K-Stuck

Roger3006

Hello Everyone,

I built my first computer about three years ago for image editing. it was a Maximus XII Hero board with a 4790K that was mildly overclocked. It failed and I replaced the motherboard with a Maximus IX Hero and had to do it fast. 32GB of Corsair 3200 RAM with six SSDs and 4 spinners.

My last setup did a great job with still images and I was amazed when I first used my new setup. A few things of interest, my current machine is plenty quick with stills (images) and I do not edit video. I am probably the oldest one on this forum. I have never been able to leave anything alone that can be made to go faster or better. Cars, sailboats and rifle cartridges are among my many vices, past and present. How many of you raced slot cars? Y'all missed something fun. That's where I am coming from. In other words, I am turning this machine up because I am having fun.

I have tried BIOS settings found in this forum and have been tweaking the BIOS. The AI Suite will do as good a job as I can. None of the BIOS settings I found at the beginning of the forum will run. Windows 10 64 will not even start. If I attempt to go up to 49000 MHz I rarely make it to Windows. If I do it will crash the minute I start RealBench.

No matter what I do or try I cannot get my CPU past 48,000 MHz with a RealBench score of about 90,000. Temps run below 75 degrees. I have a dual 140MM AIO cooler. I have not delidded my processor, yet. My delidding tool will be here Wednesday.

I do not know if my barrier is temperature related, bottleneck in my hardware, bad BIOS settings or some of each. I do not know what utilities to use that will tell me where the problem is. I need help. You can see my complete setup in my profile.

Following is a report from Real Bench. I really do not know what is good, bad or what to expect.

Nobody’s fault but mine. New motherboard will be here tomorrow morning. Old have been worse. Could have burned my stduio down.

Will resume tomorrow.

See Y’all tomorrow.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you again for your help. Below you will find my score from RealBench which is not my best but much better. You will also find the data you requested. VCORE voltage is higher than I would like but the machine is running well withing acceptable temps. I am running in the adaptive mode. Not sure if I should try manual voltage settings or leave well enough alone. I am open to any and all suggestions.

Y'all have a great Sunday afternoon.

Roger3006

Here is another run at it. Not much difference. RealBench scores are off about 10% and I have no idea why.

Thanks everyone,

Roger3006

Below, Y'all will find a Cinebench score which is as good as I have done.

Sure did and I am the one what done it. (Southern Expression). Knock on wood, will not do it again.

Well that sucks, I'm looking forward to see how much temps decreased after delidding.

Hello Everyone,

I am up and running, somewhat. My machine has two RAIDS. They did not like the motherboard swap. A fresh OS install is in order which I will do today. My work is cut out for me. I use a whole lot of different apps and it will take some time to get everything configured.

Temps are running lower. I have not stressed the machine enough to know how much but an improvement for sure.

Again thank all of your for your help and support. I did not even hear anybody laughing when I fessed up to what I did.

Have a great weekend,

Good to hear you have a working machine.

No hurry, you can show us your temp results when you get things back in order and find time.

Hello Everyone,

Well, things are working. Have some questions and sure would appreciate help and suggestions.

Temps are down. Not sure how much but a minimum somewhere between 10C and 15C under load; however, I am just starting to put some stress on the machine. Temps rarely jump higher than the low 60's. They hit the low 70s very briefly. Delidding made a big difference,

First question. Under Advanced Menu in BIOS, 'CPU Load Line Calibration" is greyed out. What is causing it.

The "Intel whatever is called" is not present in the advanced menu. I have to get into RAID setup during boot. Is there a later version AI Suite III available? If so, where do I find it?

Temp readings sometimes vary from Real Bench, AI Suite and and the CAM software (supplied with my AIO) as much as 10C. I believe it has to do with how the software averages temps over time. Tell me if I am wrong or crazy.

Core voltage is set to adaptive mode. The multiplier is set to 48. That was the only change I made from the BIOS settings. The machine did not make it through the RealBench test. I set the CPU Load Line Calibration to "5" and it make it through the benchmark test fine. I am working on one segment at a time. Below are my scores.

Voltage was fluctuating + or - about 0.004V before the "CPU Load Line Calibration was was changed from "Auto" to "5". Changing the value to "5" decreased voltage fluctuation to + or - 0.001V.

I am new to this and have very little to compare the numbers to. I do no the "Image Editing" score is terrible and that is what is most important me me. Photoshop and Lightroom are very CPU dependent. Open CL is used on a limited basis and rendering can take a while with large files. Capture One Pro utilizes open CL and it will render a large image in about 20% of the time as Lightroom. Most of the editing functions really work the CPU.

How do the numbers look other than "Image Editing"? Also, what are Y'all's suggestions about the bad "Image Editing" score? How do the rest of the scores look?

Thank Y'all again for your help and support. The first photograph I post, when this thing is running, will be the CPU socket on my old board. I did a number on it. It will give Y'all something to laugh about.
