hi guys, I am currently on 2500k, was thinking of upgrading to ivy with the maximus v forumla..
but for not much more I can get a rampage iv extreme + 3820 cpu..
decisions lol help me choose, future proofing the x79 would be better?

Well, the question is that what you are gonna use your system for? If you want more for gaming, then the Maximus should be good... If you want to enjoy OC'ing, go with the RIVE... - however, a 3930k or 3960k would be better with the RIVE... But, transiently you could go with the 3820, and when the Ivy Bridge Extreme will come out, just get that...
