What is normal for GPU throttling?

Hey guys.

So I've been monitoring my gpu while under load and playing games and I've noticed that my core clock (1100MHz) drops down to 500MHz in game, but then goes back up to the normal 1100. It will do this from time to time in game. I have GPU-z logging it in a text file so I could share it if i need to.

The questions: Is this normal? Is it GPU throttling? What is "NORMAL" for gpu throttling?

My temperatures aren't going sky high either FYI.

ok cool. do you have a link where i can read up on that and how would i go about disabling the 2D mode if i wanted to try it out?

Is there any particular reason why you would want to disable the 2D mode?


Use Afterburner.- you have to enable the AMD overclocking in the cfg file and change the mode to 2. Ask how if you are not sure how to do so.

its just for personal knowledge. i'd would just like to know how to disable it in case i one day would like to do Ln2 cooling. wouldnt want 2d mode getting in the way.

HiVizMan, are you sure that AB is good for the Matrix HD7970 Plats too? As I recall, the full OC experience was only through GPU Tweak...

It was long time since I've played with Matrix Plats, but also it was a specific version of GPU Tweak... - found it, it was version 2.3.0.2...

Zka all AMD cards will allow you to set mode two in AB.
