What am I missing in OCing my 5930k on my rampage extreme v?

Before you say anything, I looked at the guide.

So let's continue.

I tried the guide.
I tried the "ez mode".
I tried the "6 core mode"

Still at 3.5ghz but the target frequency is always something else.

This is the 6 core default. What am I missing?

The overclock/s being applied are too aggressive for that CPU (cache at 4.5G in that vid is likely doing you no good). From the details given (which are scant): System may be POSTing in safe mode which will apply default clocks.

There is another possibility as well, but I don't think you'd make that type of mistake. Its fairly elementary and I trust someone as seasoned as you will have checked the Turbo freq in the OS with the latest CPU-Z before going to the trouble of making this video, so let's ignore the possibility...

Would read the guide again quite honestly as it does not lock people into trying just one clock frequency. Based on the info given (and ignoring the elementary): CPU might just be a poor sample that needs more voltage than the profiles or average CPUs do. The guides do make allowance for those situations and tell you to clock down. 😉

There is an easy to follow guide here:

When combined there is enough info in "both" guides and this post to get someone started. GOOD LUCK!!

I don't know what happened but it works. maybe it just didn't show up but in cpu z it shows up as 4.3ghz. same thing as in the video.

You mean 4.5GHz - as that is what the video shows.

If that works, then I am guessing you were using the right hand column of UEFI to gauge speed initially (which only shows the original CPU speed). If 4.5GHz (for CPU and cache) still does not work and 4.3 GHz does, then it will be due to the processor needing more voltage or not being able to do it.

Just a word of advice - always assume the person that is reading your post does not have all the details and will struggle to put together things when they are presented in cryptic manner. It's difficult to guess things when sitting behind a screen many miles away. The more info you provide in a post that is asking others for help, the sooner one can get to the crux of the matter with fewer back and forth posts.
