Trouble overclocking with 6800k on Strix X99

Hi!

Im having trouble overclocking my new rig.

Whenever I try using the AI Suite or manually overclocking the system is having trouble booting past BIOS or into BIOS at all.

The common problem is after overclocking the BIOS won't detect my m.2 ssd disk.

The only overclock that I have got working is XMP profile #2
CPU overclock at 3850Mhz and ram at only 3000Mhz

Anything else then that, and BIOS will not fint my m.2 disk.
Or wont boot into BIOS at all.

Any help is much appericiated!

Hardware Specs:
CPU - i6800k
MB - Asus Strix X99
RAM - HyperX 32GB - 3200Mhz
H-D - Samsung EVO 960 - 500GB m.2 ssd
GPU - Asus Strix 1080 OC
PSU - Corsair Ax1200i

have you gone to samsung yet and downloaded the m.2 drivers from their site? Just changing things to manual and enabling xmp shouldnt have an impact on your boot disk.

Yes, all drivers are updated.

Are you at the 1401 Bios ??

I had a similar problem at first with a 1 TB Samsung EVO 960 NVMe, m.2 even after going to 1401

but I solved it by simply clr CMOS and an unplug of the machine from the wall. Let it sit for 30 seconds....plugged in and fired it up then set bios to "Load optimized settings"....save and quit....reboot.

Set XMP profile switch on the mobo as well as BIOS and it auto tuned and ALSO found the m.2 which I then loaded Windows 10 on.....no problems since.

EDIT: Also....are your RAM sticks a matched set of four with same timings?? I found out the hard way that even with the SAME part numbers of two 16 gig sets, one of the two sets had slightly different timings for XMP. Once I acquired a certified set of four....my initial problems went away.

Hi johnrr654!

Yes, Im on the 1401 BIOS.

Yeah after different goes on the overclocking, and the bios wont detect the m.2 ssd. So I just "Load optimized...." or the battery thing and Im back to scratch..

First thing I did was trying the XMP switch on the MOBO, but then it goes straight to XMP profile #1, wich makes my ssd dissapear again 😕 (Setting RAM to 3200Mhz etc)

Regarding the RAM sticks, they alle came in the same package as a Quad set. Will that be enough insurance that they match? Or can I check that in a other way?

Thanks for your answers guys!! 🙂

Go into Bios.....Advanced.....Tools.....Asus SPD and check the SPD settings of each stick.....that's where I caught the very minute differences in timings between the two sets of sticks. A quad set sounds like you will be OK, but I would check this anyway.

I had a look at the timings and they all look the same.

When I look at the support page for Asus Strix X99 and the Qualified Vendor List / STRIX X99 GAMING DRAM Report.

My particular RAM, Kingston HyperX 32GB (4x8Gb) is only listed in the DDR4 3000 Qualified Vendors List (QVL) section.

So it seems like the Motherboard does'nt support my RAM running at anything higher than 3000Mhz 😕

Thanks again.

Not necessarily.

The QVL simply shows what has been tested and Asus KNOWS it's OK..

Your sticks may still work....Asus just hasn't tested them .

Have you tried thowing the XMP switch on the MoBo to ON. As well as XMP setting in BIOS??

Conversely....have you tried to set the RAM up manually with the timings you saw in Asus XPD setting under Tools in the Bios? And if you try that, make sure he XMP switch on the MoBo is off as well as the XPD setting in Bios. *I'd also set DRAM voltage to 1.35.

I managed to OC the CPU to atleast 4000Mhz -- But Im still struggeling with getting the RAM to 3200Mhz
