trifire does it worth it?

Hi guys,
i have an asus maximus V extreme (core i7 3770k) in crossfire setup (xfx 7970 black edition x2) with 3 full hd monitors... i was wondering if i add a 3rd card (same as i have) i would get better performance on gamming in eyefinity mode, or wouldn´t notice a diference.... does it worth it?

Thanks

Tough call really...worth it is a tricky question. I mean, if money is no object then sure tri should give better performance but there are plenty of complaints of tri x fire and driver problems etc.

maybe sell cards and go xfire matrix 290s ?

yes may be that´s the best choice ... move to next gen cards... but i have a question i have 4 displays, does the matrix manage 4 displays? with one card? it only has 4 ports 1 dp, 1 hdmi 2 dvi ... in my xfx cards i cant use the 2 dvi port + 1 hdmi either 2 dvi connected or 1 dvi and 1 hdmi.

When it's about gaming you really have to consider it based on the particular games you're playing... more than 2-way SLI/CF usually do not scale very well in games... - and yes, there met be the driver issue too...

One thing is sure: stepping up to tri-fire from two cards will not bring you that performance boost as when you moved to 2 cards from 1...

Hi,
I thought that ... but my second though was that using eyefinity 3 display configuration is Resolution x 3 ... so has to be a representative change. what do u think in your experience?

Well, I do not have experience with multi monitor setups... at least not for everyday use/gaming... - but as I understood, you want more VRAM to keep up with the resolution... if that's true, get a Titan...

You are almost always better off getting 1 high-end video card over 2 or more low-end cards. You also need to think about what your PSU can handle as far as wattage. Your 7970s are very nice cards. Are you having issues with your FPS? If you want put your 7970s on EBay and "go for broke" with a Titan.

I think you should keep your 7970s and be happy, unless you are having issues with CrossFire game compatibility.

"The GTX TITAN’s place at the forefront of NVIDIA’s lineup is undeniable, but from a raw framerate perspective it is routinely trounced by two HD 7970 GHz Editions"
"Crossfire is still riddled with stuttering and various other bugs"
"This unfortunate situation leaves the TITAN’s position in the market relatively unscathed since it can deliver consistently high performance with none of the dual card solutions’ excess drama."

Hi all guys,
Thanks for the comments! i really appreciate them...
some considerations... i had a GTX480 then changed to the first 7970 black ed... the multimonitor management was better... sorry for the Nvidia fans, but AMD manages better... i don´t know in the new Nvidia Cards is better.. but i do a lot of multi monitor tasks and Vmware machines ... (not all is gaming)
when i used in eyefinity the 7970 alone i saw a lack of performance at ultra config... so i went for the second 7970 ... it was to late....
now i use it at ultra with eyefinity but... i would like to improve the fps 😉
of course i consider more cards more temp and more PSU use... i have a 1000w Thermaltake and i think it will perform well with three cards...

Ok let´s say three cards for your comments are not going to work well (7970´s)
So moving to the new paradox, sell my loved 7970´s and get newer cards.
so wich will perform better a GTX TITAN ? or a couple of R9 290x ?

Thanks!

2 x 290X no question...can't compare single card performance to dual card...

Also I don't think triple card on a 100w PSU is a good idea...definitely don't want to run any PSU at or near its limits...
