SSD and HDD help please?

Here's the deal. When I set my rig up I installed Windows 8 to my 120gb Samsung SSD. Everything I have installed since then has been to that SSD. I know have finally received my WD 1TB HDD and want to make my SSD strictly my boot drive and have everything else running off my new TB drive. I can change the location of my Libraries without any issues, and copy folders over from one drive to the other, but I'm having issues redirecting everything else.

So I guess the root question is how can you achieve having the SSD as the boot drive only and then have everything else on the HDD? I mean have the actual file locations redirected to the HDD and not just copied. I have looked all over the place and people just discuss the benefits and registry edits that may or may not work. Generally I can handle this stuff myself but I'm a little on the confused side now.

Been a while since I've used Windows but the easiest (and most effective) way would be to create symbolic links to folders on your HDD at the original location of the folders on your SSD. From the Windows command line you can use the mklink command, there are many tutorials a short google away.

And you can avoid otherwise mandatorily C-drive bound programs to take up valuable space on your SSD, remember they like to have some free room to keep functioning at top speed. There´s a thread on the how-to here, http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?27134-How-to-prevent-default-installations-on-C-drive

redirecting your temp files to another drive will speed things up for you

Our very own Chino

It's pretty easy to change the default installation path via the registry.

1. Launch Registry Editor.
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion
3. You'll see a value named ProgramFilesDir.
4. Double click it and change it to the location you want.

Note: For 64 bit users, you'll see ProgramFilesDir and ProgramFilesDir x86. Change both of them.
To help us help you - please provide as much information about your system and the problem as possible.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I got it all figured out and am good to go. HiVizMan/Chino you the men!
