Solid red led cpu... question: :(

Hi guys,

I have a problem with my asus crosshair 4 formula.
It seams to have power going through
(chassis fan, and usual led) so I assume psu is working.
But the cpu fan is dead.
and the cpu led is solid on the m/b when I power on.

When I power on, it's not getting to the bios.
screen stay black and no activity on harddrive.
For sure, I dont have a spare cpu fan so I plugged
a 3 wire chassis fan on the board assuming...wrong

no post.

Can someone confirm to me that if no cpu fan present
(plugged in the cpu m/b 4 wires 'bracket')
it wont go through post messages ?

Possibly a 'stab in the dark' here but try resetting the CMOS... yo can use the jumper provided or button or remove battery for a few minutes.

I already tried that 😞

What I need to know is :
If nothing is plugged (4 wires connector) in the cpu fan bracket
the motherboard wont boot ?

Hello steph291

It should boot with no fan connected to the cpu fan header but you should get a cpu fan error message.

List us your complete system specifications please.

I'm thinking it could be the psu, mobo or cpu. You could try updating the bios to rule that out.

Was your pc working fine before this?

Yes, The pc was working fine.
It stops working during a game.
no shutdown. screen to black in a second.

There were still light in the case (fancy light).
Led on on the m/b. (+ the cpu led solid)

chassis fan working when I power on. but no post.

It's simply not getting to the post.
I verified the gpu card in another pc. It's working.
I unplug all media. the same when I power on.

Spec:
Crosshair 4 formula
amd fx 6 core
8 gig ram

It could be the psu...
but when it's dead, no power at all should go through?
the motherboard, when it's dead, no power going through ?
is it possible the CPU is dead ?

I'm completely lost here 😞

A faulty psu can still give power to some components, if you have another psu or cpu to test with that would be great otherwise we are just guessing what the problem is.

If you don't have components to test with, take it to a pc shop and have them diagnose it for you.

The cpu type in my mobo :

fd6200frw6kgu
a FX 6200...

I think the problem is the cpu...

beta bios ?!?
not for me.

Guys, what cpu do you recommend for that mobo... for stabillity ?
also the heat. I'm not going watercooling.

All that assuming the faulty part is the cpu for sure.

Ok maybe I over looked something, are you only connecting the 4 pin cpu power cable?

You need to connect the mandatory 8 pin cpu power cable.

I've delidded my CPU. when I attach mains the psu, without powering on my PC, the red CPU led is solid. When I power on the PC, fans are spinning, but the red CPU led is still solid. No beeps, nothing. I'm thinking CPU is dead, not seated correctly or PSU doesn't have enough juice for my setup. Anything else I may have missed?
