ROG OC Showdown Formula Series - Round3

AkaNe0
Level 10
The Round3 of the ROG OCS will start this Friday. For the ones that never heard about this online overclocking competition before, the OCS is divided in two series.

  • Formula Series
  • Extreme Series

53461

The Formula Series is limited to air and water cooling, and Elite and Extreme Leagues from HWBOT are not allowed to participate in the Formula Series. This way, we create a more fair game for everyone. Here is a recap of HWBOT different leagues:

If you never tried the competitive overclocking before, this is the chance. It's easy to join and the benchmarks to run are easy. Only need some tricks and tweaks to do the best scores. But as we say, the most important is to participate!

The three benchmarks of this third round are:

To help you to get started, here is a quick guide on how to submit your scores on XTU.

  • Download XTU (Intel Xtreme Tuning utility) benchmark .
  • Install the program and reboot your system.
  • Open XTU and click “Run” on the benchmarking area.
  • Click on the Compare Online button and you will be redirected to the HWBOT website.
  • Click on “Competing” and fill in your information.
  • Take a picture of your rig and click “Submit”.
  • A pop-up windows will appears with the competitions you can enter with your score. Click on “ROG OC Showdown Formula Series – Round 3″.
  • Check your ranking! (May require a little time to verify and update.)

Between step 3 and 4, all come to your overclocking skills and patience. Every system is different and will react in a different way. You need to try settings on settings until you find the best efficiency. To do so, you can start to run your benchmark without any modification and check your score (recommended -> take a pen and piece of paper). Then you can start to play with the manual tuning of XTU or AI suite from ASUS and change the CPU ratio, cache and voltage (don't go too high too quick). To go higher, you will have to change the timings of your memory in the BIOS.

Chino just write a very nice guide on how to overclock the i7-6700K CPU. Have a look here.

Depending on the platform you are using, you can find online, guides on how to overclock.

A last recommendation for XTU, from the last WR of Dancop, is to run twice in the raw XTU (without waiting between those two, so have your finger ready on the mouse button).

More info about the competition here.

And you what's your tweaks?
And don't forget, Keep pushing it !

Hey hey! Well I'm ready to wreck some benchmarks!!! Was just kind of curious as to how active our team was/is? I actually joined a while back and an now completely addicted to any and all of ASUS ROG hardware which is starting to pile up 🙂 Anyways long story short, like I said I've been on the team for a little while now and was just wondering if this is the one and only team ASUS has? It just seems a bit dead around the ROG HWbot team page. Right now it seems like my love for all my glorious ROG hardware is what's keeping me there 😞 ......So who's on this team that's serious and dedicated enough to own this showdown and wreck some face for team ROG!!!!!

Hello!

Thanks for your message. It's true for now not much is happening inside the Hwbot ASUS ROG team.

However the ROG OC Showdown can be access by anyone who wants to join and interested about competitive overclocking. A bit of competition is always good to give adrenaline 😄

To give some peps to the team, we just need to relaunch the discussion and share again tips and tweaks to try to get the best efficiency.
And don't forget, Keep pushing it !

Its sad, I cant join with my experience rank 😄 Feeedback from local guys is, they wont more similar HWBOT challenges with limitation on air/watter cooling. And of course with limitation of CPU cores (because not much these people have more than quadcore without SMT)

What do you mean similar to HWBOT challenges? Different benchmarks?

For the CPU cores, for this round we divided the scores by the number of cores to try to be fair. Users then have to see which platform is the most efficient.

Any other recommendation for next time?

Extreme Series will be back soon!!
And don't forget, Keep pushing it !

I think more often this HWBOT challenges for intermediate overclockers and enthusiast. Its mean limitatiuon with air or AIO cooling or max wattercooling :).

Second point is great, points divider to the core. But still, if you have Skylake DT, its most effective per core :). Maybe sometimes to do smaller challenges for CPU generation by generation. Example AMD 15h family or Intel core Haswell/SKylake or Core Duo, Core Quad 4-4.5GHz limitation Superpi32M, 3DM11/Firestrike etc 🙂

Seems, I will have some time in January for home LN2 (or I really hope for the time:cool:).So Im looking for, one SKylake si delided :)... Now I have mixup of Boostmypc duties, preparing for game event and doing at M8E review+GSkill memory scaling in games.
