RIVA Chasis/OPT Fan Problem

I am having a problem controlling the fan speeds of my fans that I connect to the CHA or OPT fan headers (CPU and CPU OPT works fine).

I have 12 fans on my case (3x480 rads), I have 3 of these : http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14982/cab-627/EK_4-Pin_PWM_4-Way_Splitter_Cable_-_Sleeved_Black_Bl....

Therefore, as far as RIVA is concerned, I got 3 of the 4 pin fan connectors. 2 of these are connected to CPU and CPU OPT, they work great. The 3rd one is however always runs at max speed, it doesn't matter if I connect it to CHA 1 2 3 or OPT 1 2 3. What am I doing wrong?

I am really frustrated, this is a $429 board.

What is your duty settings in bios> Fan speed?
opt_1
opt_2
opt_3
chassi_fan (which profile are you using)..
q Fan enabled?

The cpu_fan and the opt_cpu fan. adjust after the cpu temp..

Chassie_fan.. Is chassie fan plain and simple, you can set them as you want, using manual, or profiles.. they cant be controlled individually..

Opt_fan1,2,3 is controlled via temp probes, (manual mode), or else you can set the duty/profile in bios..

the opt_fans (not cpu_opt fan), can be controlled individually.. ex.. opt1 run at 40%,..opt2 controlled via probe (manual profile).....opt3 60%

or how you prefer..

PCH Fan is also controlled in there, you can set profile, or set one manual..

Its simple..

haha, would you not have been frustrated if it had coast 215 usd?

I dont understand..

Bios> Fan speed control or monitor... dont remember..

Chasis set to manual makes no difference same for opt and duty modes

are you using 2k rpm fans?

Set the duty mode at>

opt1 40%
opt2 40%
opt3 40%

The opt fans, now should run at 40%

I am using 800-2000 rpm fans. Nothing works really.

So I tried using a 3 pin Y splitter (only 2 way, so I had to use 2 of them for 4 fans), they work on CHA headers (not OPT, but thats expected), and BIOS can control the fan speed fine.

I'm guessing this is a very technical problem that will involve someone knowing about the internals of this motherboard. I'm very disappointed that I cannot use the 4 in 1 splitter on these headers though. I thought CHA and CPU headers were same.

I still dont know how you mean?

are you looking for a way to get the fans, adjust after the cpu temp?

Please keep in mind that you prob use more than 1 amp draw, on each header if using 4 way splitter, and 2k rpm fans.. 0,35X4
recommendations, is not to exceed 1 amp, per header..

You did not even look at the links I posted. I am not drawing the power from the motherboard, the 4 in 1 splitter works with a molex as the power source of the fans and mobo is only used for blue/yellow wires to read/control PWM.

All I care is that my fans don't spin at 100%. Ideally, I'd like them to be controlled as the CPU fans of the CPU temp, but even OPT headers don't work.

By the way, each fan is rated at 0.14 amp, so I could easily connect a lot more than 4 of them into 1 header, not that this is what I'm trying to do, but I wanted to clarify it.

And to re-iterate, a 3 way splitter on the header does work (but that 3 way splitter is different in that it does draw the power from the motherobard).

Hello, nobody knows?

If one cable works and another doesn't it must be a problem of the cables not transmitting a signal etc.

The rating for a fan is an average and has nothing to do with peak draw at startup and/or full load. Running two 120mm fans off one header is OK, three...depends on the fan, four I wouldn't do it.
