Really bad performance with 4770/H100i setup, any ideas?

I recently upgraded my build to this system, and I've been having some big problems mimicing the results other users have had with these components. My build right now:

Maximus VI Hero
i7 4770k unlocked
Corsair h100i
4x2 GB RAM
EVGA 670 Grahpics card

I noticed right away that I wasn't getting super great OC, capped it at 44 GHz during testing and then I scaled it back to 4.2 for regular use. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be holding up. The CPU will run cool most of the time, around 35C, and then every so often I'll get these flash crashes where the computer will BSOD out of nowhere (usually when I'm starting it from sleep mode or running relatively low-impact games). When I turn the computer back on the CPU is always really hot, around 55 degrees or so despite having just restarted the machine. I've tried reducing the OC even further but I still seem to be having these problems, so for the time being I turned it off completely.

Has anyone encountered something like this? Any ideas as to what might be causing it?

The reason your CPU is so hot after a crash and restart may be because of the H100... during the crash it shuts down, then it needs to spin up (pump and fans).

For the crash I would suspect the memories too - memtest86+ for at least 4 cycles...

Double-check your virtual memory amount with 8GB of system memory! I had an Impact+4670k crashing on me after long usage periods... ended up to run it at stock settings and still was getting those BSODs... after I upgraded the RAM to 16GB (previous 8GB) suddenly everything started to work correctly, even with OC - I was using it for work with big data files though, don't know how much RAM your games require...

I have a maxumus extreme IV with 4770k and 16G vengeance mem.
I also have the corsair H100i AND the AX1200I (have 2 corsair linked items)
They both work in win8.1 with the most recent bios files off corsair web page.
It works very well....
The "Corsair" written on the CPU has the option to CHANGE colors, as the TEMP rises.... (min is blue for 30, on up to RED for 70c)
I placed the fans on a Custom Curve according to temps......
I have never had ANY grinding or ect from the pump....

Only time I heard a bad noise was do to some wire getting hit by the fan. MY fault obviously...
The only thing I and wondering is HOW do I get the OTHER fans that are connected to the
"Case fans" pins to run at a HIGHER speed???
THe h1000i is great at sucking the air in, but those case fans do not seem to change speeds to get all that
HOT AIR that the GTX7 780 is putting out!..... especially if the gtx780 card doesn't increase fans very much.... until very hot....
(used the EVGA software for a custom Temp/RPM curve to handle that )
Also the AX1200i doesn't like to run it's fan very much either unfortunately, Corsair link
will not let you run a custom Temp/RPM curve to regulate.... ONLY FIXED RPM and DEFALT....
I would hope this would change in the future...

I would Tap on the top of the pump and or exchange if it is having issues....

Sorry to ramble..... And I don't have much to say about the OVER CLOCKING as of yet.... It will run 4.4 using the ASUS suite.... (and yes even with the corsair link and the EVGA GPU software running)
I have yet to upgrade BIOS..... I will let you know how it all goes when that happens....

That's not a very good idea... AiSuite and Corsair Link are known to not like each other...

how you checked the voltage? im sure someone on here can give you approximage voltage settings to get you stable at your desired overclock.

hi
don't no if this would help or not
Max ext V1
H100i
4770k at 46.1
780ti
I had a few problems similar to you with my set up but no crashes
I seemed to get odd temps with H100i I had my rad facing to the back of my case and when running some games temps went way too hi
what I found was my GPU was throwing heat onto my pips giving extra temps fans was blowing out of case as well
also AI was conflicting with Corsair link it would show no pump clock instead it showed a 680ti pump
so I uninstalled AI just used bios fan control
turned my rad around put new heat paste ICEDIMOND
and made my fans intake air
now I have great temp 26c tick over
and hrs of paying games never goes over 55c

and temp will on shut down and start up give high readings as your pump is connected to usb header and sops working for a short while
hope this helps

Thanks for all the tips. I tried a few things but I haven't gotten to the bottom of it yet.

For one, I can't get memtest to run off a USB. Tried the program on their site that's supposed to set up a USB to boot, but it doesn't work. Anyone had this issue before, or know a solution? Looking around online hasn't led me to anything.

I'm also thinking that my temps are a mounting problem. I read online that with the h100i some people found that if they pushed on the unit (via the LED, while holding the back of the motherboard) their temps went down. Sure enough, ran realbench up to 80C, then pressed on the unit and saw temperatures drop to 60. Unfortunately tightening the screws didn't replicate the result, so I'm going to do a remount with extra washers on the backplate once I buy some thermal paste, now that I know what I'm looking for.

Checked my virtual memory but I don't know what to look for. My 8GB of RAM is under currently allocated, and "automatically manage paging file size" is checked.

the whole hiber sleep thing is a flaw i think, ever since it first was released on regular desktops

The best thing is to disable it totally..

Turn on pc when you are using it
Turn off pc when your sleeping, or not at home..

Today many of the computers are overclocked, and i cant imagine this makes the situation any better when running the sleep mode in enable..

Its just to disable hibernation in win dos promt, and you get 10-15gb xtra ssd space for free on your c drive (bonus)

and disable sleep mode in the win balanced performance tab (dont know if that is needed when the hibersys is disabled)

I like ai suit a lot, and are using it often, i only have probe and fanxpert enabled, never had a issue in over 2 years, on 5 or 6 rog boards that way

The only thing that i have had a problem with once, was the asus fan service = lan issue after boot, its just to disable it in the win task manager, and uncheck it from startup menu = problem solved, and ai suit and lan works just fine again

How have you been trying to boot to the pen drive? I always go into BIOS and force to boot off USB (non-UEFI).

That's the only way I've been able to get mine to reliably boot to the USB with Memtest.

yes i agree with Dr Z..

Use a usb stick

dont be surprised if you dont get any errors in memtest

I have to update my bios, but I dont' have any fan control in bios???
My case fans are all 3-pin (and plugged into the "case fan" slots on MB.

Corsair recommends a AIR INTAKE from the top of the case?
I have the radiator on the top, and the fans underneath, pulling air THROUGH the radiator into the case??????

Wouldn't you want to "pull the air OUT " of the top of the case????

I had to open my case up to get the temps right..... my video card was putting out so much heat is was crazy...

No wanting to jack the thread ....
