Rampage IV Extreme won't POST

So the other day my system randomly shut off during normal desktop usage. I had a slight overclock going (4.4ghz w/ 1.30 vcore) and had no problems for 8 months. I took the board out of the case and unhooked everything besides the cpu.

Basically, no matter what PSU I use, I cannot get the board to POST. When only the 24pin is connected, the fans and lights turn on. Yay. However, when either or both of the 4 pin connections are powered (on the top of the board) nothing powers on. Not even the fans.

I've tried using two different power supplies and I get the same result. Does this mean my CPU is fried or that my motherboard has a problem? Forgive me if it seems obvious, but I've never had to diagnose something like this.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Welcome to the ROG forums, JSchulberger.

I'm almost 100% sure that your motherboard is the culprit. When you only have the 24 pin connector plugged into the RIVE and you try to start it up, one of two things can happen. If the fan turns on, the motherboard is defective. If the fan doesn't turn on, then the CPU is the defective piece. But if you have another CPU or if you can borrow another one to confirm it, then that would be great.

Thank you for the welcome!

Unfortunately I do not have access to another 2011 socket CPU. As you said, the PCH fan only turns on when the two 4 pin connections are disconnected. So I guess it's the motherboard.

I'll RMA the board again and see what happens. Thanks for the help!

You might want to pull the power from your board and let it sit for a few hours.

That has brought these boards back from the dead before.

Well this is weird.

So I let the board sit in it's packaging overnight. This morning I reseated the CPU and plugged in all power connections for the motherboard. The PCH fan will now turn on but the board will still not POST.

The CPU_LED lights up when i turn the board on. This concerns me, however yesterday when the PCH fan spun up (with only the 24 pin connected) the same LED was lit. Any ideas?
