Rampage IV Extreme + Nvidia GTX 690

Hello everybody,I am writing because of a problem I am experiencing in the last period: when I stree my GTX 690 my pc reboots.I have noticed this thing playing games and I have the impression that when the VGA asks for power,PC shuts down and restarts.Another strange thing is that in the MB bios I can't see my VGA detected in the "GPU POST" section. This happens also if I install the VGA card in the other 3 PCIE slots.Bios version is the 4804 but I have the same problem with other bios versions too.I have also tried to format the PC in order to exclude driver crashes.Nothing.I am seriously thinking I have a faulty GTX 690...What do you think about? Thanks.

hi Astaroth,

What PSU do you have? It sounds like it isnt getting enough power. That is a more realistic possibility than suggesting that all the PCIE slots are dead....

Download the newest driver from nvidia (dont install yet), Uninstall the current driver. download and run ccleaner to get rid of any leftovers of the old driver.

Once everything is fully uninstalled, remove the gpu and boot to the igpu in the intel. Install the new Nvidia drivers. Reboot is needed after installation. Then Shutdown and re-install gpu and boot on again to see the results. If that doesnt work either your GPU is the problem or your PSU doesnt give enough power to it.

I have all my pc specs in the signature 😉 Anyway the PSU is a 1000 W Thortech Thunderbolt .No OC,all it's at default values.I already tried a fully reinstallation both of drivers and of th VGA in all the 4 PCIE slots, not solving the problem.Only a thing:I don't underastand what you mean with "boot to the igpu in the intel".
Second: perhaps should I update VGA bios too?

well normally there is a GPU intergrated in the i7's. Normally at the back of your pc between the usb's there must me a hdmi port. Thats for using the GPU of your CPU.

I dont know about flashing.. If its still under warranty i would bring it back and report the problem. Because i dont know this for sure but flashing those GTX 690 could effect your warranty status.

In fact,I will leave the things as they are and I'll RMA the VGA.Eventually I will buy a more powerful PSU but a 1000W one seems to fit with my actual configuratiom...or perhaps is the PSU faulty too? And i7 3970X has no integrated graphic 🙂
Thanks for answers.

you're right, 3970x hasnt Intergrated graphics sorry bout that !
1000W is more than enough for 1 GTX 690..
I dont think the problem is the PSU but if you have a spare GPU you could swap that in and test with that. If you detect it and your system runs stable than you know for sure it isnt the PSU and that the problem is the GTX 690.
An unstable PSU means also an unstable system, so you would get a lot of BSOD's if PSU was the problem.

I will RMA the VGA and then we will see...I'll let you know 😉
Thanks again.

Hi guys,RMA not done yet and still having problems.Just a question,is it normal in the "GPU Post" of my Bios I see a situation like this one?It seems no VGA is detected...
