Rampage 4, 5ghz 1.45v, some input please.

Hi all

Was wondering i should upgrade to a x3960 6core over my current chip.

Does 4.875 linx stable at 1.385v ram at 2552 and can boot into windows at 5ghz 1.392v take a screen shot, can complete a aida memory cache benchmark at 1.408v, Motherboard R4E.

Would it be worth selling this chip and go to a x3960 for some new OC fun? or not worth it? cause this current chip runs every game with no problem at all, Any info would be much appreciated.

Been playing some more with the system, and managed to get 5007mhz stable at 1.45v under load stable 3072mb 5passes of linxs, plays bf4 and every other game for hours, its got me thinking that i might be making a stupid decision in get a 3930k or 3960x, what do you all think?

Any input would be much appreciated.

Going to say it... Not to sure how long you think your processor will honestly last at that voltage.. however.. enjoy it while it does.

1.392 is quite high... at least from what I've been told anyways.

Hi buddy,

People have been running 1.40v for years now, anything over 1.4v for 24/7 will degrade, from what i have read. Dont know where your getting your info buddy? im on water and the temps never go above 45 degrees when gaming?

Dont run it at 24/7 at that speed only when gaming, and that would only a couple of hours every night.

Thankyou for your input sir, much appreciated, And from what you have been told, is different from reading others experiences on the net, read around on other forums and you'll see that anything below 1.4v within Vcca/vtt with 0.3v off core is perfectly fine, anything over this, would cause degradation, especially if not on watercooling.

Those temps are LINXS temps, temps never exceed 45-50c when play BF4.

What a nice reply, someone replies that the cpu is not gonna last? wtf, with out no knowledge on the matter.

Negative? Or trying to be helpful. What a nice response to someone who at least posted something in regards to concerning the life of your processor But hey.. why bother if your just gonna post comments with a high horse response.

I've done my research as well and even came from a first gen i5 oc'd to 4.2GHz on air under 1.35v while on air. I have some experience and even made sure to do some homework before I jumped into Haswell with Z97 board on the do's and don'ts.

If your willing to follow what Intel states as safe then go for it but don't be surprised if its life LIKE I SAID BEFORE, it's life was smaller than you hoped. I would personally follow a community of experience then Intel on a data sheet. That's like saying a car can exceed 120MPH but doing so safely obviously should be taken into account even if the speedometer said 160. I'll take the word from people who have damaged and or killed there CPU.

besides Devils Canyons should easily hit 5GHz... right? I mean.. Intel did Say it would do it flawlessly...

I see where your coming from, But the cpu should be fine at 1.4 and under for watercooling, people on the net have been running 1.4v and under for years now with no degredation, It might be different for socket 1150.

I didnt mean to come across harsh, i understnad your trying to give advice, but from other sources, and actual real life situations, 1.4v is fine, its the VCCSA and VTT voltage that does the most damage to the cpu, if you go above 1.25v and 1.15 for those voltages and then expect degradation, but then again there are people that have been running 1.3v VCCSA and 1.2v vtt for 1 - 2 years and there cpu's are still fine. They might not last 10 years but only 3 - 5 years but every cpu degrades over time. Its how you cool it and how hard its stressed, If its going to be stressed with SETI@home all its life then expect it to degrade sooner than other chips. But for everyday gaming use, it shouldnt be a problem with x79 platform.
