Ram Overclocking

Hey folks,

i'm new at overclocking so before i'd get my hand at the CPU i'd try the ram first. I'm using 16GB of Corsair Dominator platinum ROG edition. In the Maximus VIII Formula's motherboard bios i've set the AI overclock to "ROG Certified" which should give the ram an extra boost to 3333Mhz. Now here's the problem. Both CPUID don't show it.

in CPUID i see: NB Frequency 4100Mhz and under timings DRAM frequency 1066 with FSB: Dram at 1:16 and if i run a memory benchmark in Aida64 trial at the bottom i see Memory bus 1066Mhz and FSB32:3

am i missing anything?

First of all, you gain much more performance OC'ing the CPU versus the memory.

According to your PC specs, are you running DDR2 memory?
If so, 3333MHz will be virtually impossible on that platform.

If you are on a DDR4 platform, please list the model number of your Corsair memory.

i can't figure out how to update those old specs. Built an entirely new system. in the mean time you can check out http://www.overclock.net/t/1603194/project-phoenix for full specs. Think i have succesfully tried the 3333Mhz but didn't seem to be very stable. Constant small visual horizontal glitch lines, screen kept flashing on/off...

Took me over 5 minutes to fix that, cause it was happening in both BIOS and at OS level.

Nice rig, congrats!

Graphical glitches like you describe generally aren't caused by memory problems.
First get your memory stable by enabling the XMP profile or manually enter your memory basics in the bios.
If you still have graphical issues, remove your video card and run on the iGPU for troubleshooting purposes.

4x4GB 3200 memory may require some special tweaking.
